Thumbs up OTA True Duals/Sweet Thunders Installed

Got my Over The Axle True Duals installed today with 18" Sweet Thunders. After 8 months of the dumps, i had to run it out the back. I need to say "thanks" to Skip @ Exhaust Wizard for working so hard on my car today. I kicked around the idea of running under the axle, but when it was all said and done, it seemed like a 50/50 decision, so i went over.

I'm not a fan of excess BLING, but the stainless steel should hold up a little longer down here in the "wet" south.

At first i was worried about the cutouts hanging down to low, but from the back, it looks like the 3 bolt flange on the mufflers are the lowest point. I drove to my office park where i have speed bumps from hell and she seemed to handle them without scraping.

Not the best side view, but you can kinda see my clearance.

The more i look at it, the more i wish i hadn't used such a large x-pipe. Skip had to trim the ends of the Sweet Thunders to get them to fit before the axle, and if anything, i need MORE not less.

Over the axle took the longest, and he had to trim a tad of the heat shield, but it clears everything nicely. He had me start the car and go WOT a few times, to check it before the finale weld to make sure i didn't bang anything.

First impresstions:

After 8 months, i have my cabin back. This reduced the sound inside by 40% or better. With the windows down, i was able to talk in a normal tone and skip could hear me fine. I LOVE IT!!!

Outback: The Sweet Thunders have a DEEP rumble that the Dynomax's just don't have. The sound of my cam lope before was "muffled" because of the turn downs under the car, and now it's clean and clear. Running these out the back is THE WAY.

On the road: The car has a much more refined deep tone running at low rpm's in 1st and 2nd gear. Almost gone are the creaks and rattles that i've been hearing for the last 8 months, she no longer sounds like she's about to fall apart. When i get on her, she sings at 6000, and has a nice controlled deceleration tone without sounding like a glass pack. I know, words just don't cut it. I'll post a video tomorrow.

Cons- This car is still loud. The idea was to tone it down a notch, i got a half notch. The cutouts were a mute point. My neighbors will still hate my car.
The cops will still hear me, before they see me.

Other than that, this was a improvement over the dumps. Maybe down the road i'll get Skip to weld me in longer mufflers with a h-pipe, we'll see.
Thanks for reading my long post,
Mike

Thanks nostyta!!

As far as price goes, i spent
$30 for the cutouts
$178 for the Sweet Thunders
$65 for the x-pipe
$459.00 for the stainless steel
$169.00 for the tips
$400.00 for labor
total:
$1301

Most people won't spend that much, but it's what i wanted. I'm happy with it to the point that i'll start working on my suspension and wheels and tires.

So if you already had existing TD dumps, and wanted to keep the piping you had, and just extend it out the back, you'd be looking at somewhere under the neighborhood of $400 for the labor + the price of whatever tips you wanted, not a bad deal, especially since Atlanta isn't too far from Nashville. Good to know.

Looks amazing. The stainless really sets it off. Very nice setup.

Thanks SScottie!!
The tips are *cough*magnaflow*cough*cough*.
I always liked the dual/dual tips, and because our cars have such a FAT ***, i knew i could go ricer big and get away with it!!

Thanks josh99ta!!
Yeah, Skip did a 3" under the axle on a firehawk last week and said it was not much lower than mine. He's a good guy to work with, but call him and talk about your setup and plans. Custom means Custom.

My friend just got the SAME exact setup almost, I'm sure he'll chime in, but IMO it sounds incredible. I drove it the other day, inside, you're not kidding... it's MUCH quieter than I would've expected. Outside, it sounds great. Congrats.

Hey Stark, i noticed that you live in Georgia too. I was wondering what you do about emissions testing since you have no cats. I really want an ORY or a TD setup w/ no cats but the emissions testing is what is holding me back from it, and i live in Georgia too. (in Acworth)

I think the exhaust looks great, but instead of the "truck" tips I would have bought the 35169 Magnaflow tips like I did.

Thanks for the compliments everyone!!

ncd1966- I plan on doing the video tomorrow if it will stop raining here.

Ninety9ta- (cats) "It's not what you know....It's WHO you know" nod,nod,wink,wink....

UnleashedBeast- Thanks. I can't wait to see your pics. As far as the tips go..

35172 just looked better to me. Maybe it was because the ends were spaced out just a tad more than the 35169's.

lastcall190- Driving tonight over to a friends house i used my cell phone for the first time in 8 months!!! It was like getting an extra hour back in my life!!

Thanks Super Sport Beast!!

Yes, that is the upper panhard relocator bar 00RedWs6. You could use the stock bar , but i didn't want my exhaust banging around when i go WOT. And other than the cutout plates being loose on the first test run, she hasn't made any banging after 2 days of driving.

Sun's out, time to make a video!!
