Squeal or chirping sound from engine when <1000 rpm
Just in the last week I've been getting a squeal or chirping sound from the engine when at idle or low rpms (sounds a bit like supercharger whine). If I rev the engine above 1000 rpm the noise go aways; doesn't matter if the clutch is engaged or not. Car only has 15K miles on it, is it a belt or tensioner problem?

Topped off the power steering fluid, but the noise remains. I'll replace the belts next, but I don't think that's the cause of the noise. Any other ideas what it might be?

Finally found time to replace both belts since they looked glazed over, however the noise still remains.
When you refer to idler pully, what did you replace? The pulley itself is connected to a kinda spring loaded contraption that puts tension on the belt, did you replace that as well?

Check and make sure you balancer has not moved, If the it chirps when the A/C is on its usually the A/C tensioner or the idler, if its all the time its prob the drive belt tensioner possibly the idler pulley.
do a search its been posted several times!

Doesn't chirp when the AC is on. I've done searches several times, however I think I was missing the background info that the tensioner and idler pulley are two distinct parts. I already got a Katech tensioner but I'll also buy a new idler pulley to cover both bases.

I had the same problem a couple of month's ago...replaced the idler pulley and it went away. A good way to find out is let the car idle or have someone give it a little throttle and listen to each pulley with a long screw driver next to you ear.
