Problem with Kooks 1 7/8 LT's on a Vette. Well installed a set of Kooks 1 7/8 headers and off road X pipe on my friends Blue Z06 (2MuchRiceMakesMeSick aka Justin) and well i've only done a couple header jobs on vettes and they weren't that hard, so i decided to do these. All in all the install wasn't horrible. You do have to jack the motor as high as you can possibly jack it (one side at a time) to slip the headers in. Headers looked great nice welds (i'm a welder so i know) and they hugged the motor real nice. BUT, when we went to bolt the headers in the flanges (that bolt to the head) had the bolt holes off about an 1/8" so we could either fit the first four bolts or the last four bolts (we messed up one bolt trying to put five in at atime) i had to take the startter and kniuckle back off and surgicaly remove the headers(taking them out was more of a bitch than putting them in). Once i had both headers out i had to wallow out the holes to get all the bolts to go line up with out messing up the threads. I was a nice waste of about 2 hours. What isreallyu wierd is Justin used to have a Black SS and EVERY install we ever did on his car always took double the time because of some freak problem. This weekend we figured out it is Justin thats cursed not the SS. :bang: I figure Kooks makes their header flanges in batches so just a heads up if you are getting Kooks headers anytime soon. |
I just read a thread about a week or 2 ago about the same problem with a set of Kooks headers for an F body. |
Yeah, kooks is really starting to suck from I've been seeing. |

It's getting to be a pretty big slip... |
I've heard some QTP people have had the same problem too. But its one of those freak things that happens. I was lucky not to have any problems. |
I so feel your pain. I imagine when I get mine back, I am going to line them up with the new heads to make sure if I have to oblong any bolt holes, it gets done before the cramp up in the engine bay. |
