Who's running shift lights? People say they are a waste of money but when I'm gettin' it, I look at the road not my gauges. A shift light would let me know when I'm at redline and need to shift and I would still be paying attention to the road. People who are running them, were they easy to install? I was looking at an Autometer Pro-Light. Thanks for any input! |
who says they're a waste of money? specially ona ls1 with our retarded tach that can't keep up with the engine. I have raptor shift light..routed through a groment on the pass. side to the ecu....no very hard...just a lil time consuming. |
I thought mine was fairly easy to install. I set it up right were the center of my speedometer needle is. It works great and I am always looking at the road and not my tac. |
Im assuming its like anything else and will come with car-specific instructions? |
I'm not very good at wiring and electrical stuff but I tackled this without any problem. It's pretty easy and I think it's money well spent. |
I'm looking at getting the Raptor light and putting it behind the A/C vent. Can't miss that. With my less-than-perfect shifting, I'll set it to go off at 6500rpm, so I'm shifting by 67-68. |
Why would you need numbers, when all you need it a time to shift , (light) I've got the Harlan (Blue) shift light and when it come on it's time to shift here is a pic were mine is mounted in piller http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...Picture009.jpg |

I have a 5" autometer 10,000 rpm tach and shift lite--attached---wouldn't do without it...... :drive: |
Does brand matter? Any preferences? |
I'm very happy with my Harlan shift light (red), I mounted it behind the center A/C vents for the stealth look. The only way I would see it as useless on our cars is if you have an A4 as opposed to an M6, in which case why the hell would you be looking at a shift light when the tranny does the shifting?? So yeah, it's a pretty useful mod for us M6 guys. |
Shift light is a total waste of money -on a Honda Civic DX. But, on our cars, (especially with 4.10 gears) and most any performance car, it is money well spent. As the mod list grows and the power comes on faster, the rev range goes by much quicker and the light is the only thing between you and the limiter. Shift light was my buddy at the track- told me when to shift! Have fun! |
I have a harlan in the center vent [blue] and it is almost a safety item on the street,I wouldn't go back to a tach, which is slow as hell w/4,10's. |
Ordered my raptor shiftlite yesterday. I can't wait for it to get in so I can install it and do some hell raising  |
Raptor here. Love it! |

How could it be a waste of money?! For 80 bucks and 20 min. to install you csant beat it. I love my raptor shift light and it works great. Just make sure you put it on the 4cyl mod or you are goin to think it is brokin like me. Intill i decided to read the directions haha :bang: |
Autometer here, I like it alot, easy install |
Raptor (green) in the a/c vent!! I love not hitting the rev limiter!! Easy install, an hour or so depending where you place it. Like others have stated, if you've got a M6, you'll need one. Good luck! |
the Harlan is a nice peice, I have the autometer shift light with the pills, love it, and I have mine mounted in the AC vent also, very stealth, till it lights up the whole inside of the car  |
