Cutout should've been 1st Mod!

I got my 3" cutout installed yesterday and DAMN it sounds good!! It makes me wonder why people spend $500 on exhaust. I would suggest it to anyone thinking about a cutout. Sounds like the car is eating the concrete on WOT! Anyways I was pretty excited so I thought I should tell someone!

yeah i did that and then i got headers and when you hear open headers a cutout sounds like stock exhaust, but still sounds badass now that i have one cutout in the I pipe.

yeah that was the first mod I every did. Liked it so much I never capped it.

i love mine too, but I keep it capped with the headers installed now!.. unless I'm racing then the cap is removed!

I think that was the first thing I did to this car.

Yeah, cutouts rule. How are you guys stopping the rattle from the flap. Doesn't happen at first. I sold my electric and now have manuals, but no rattle and no leaks.

go a Thunderracing Bump Stop hanger and it works just fine also pounded the Y pipe at the torque arm so it wouldnt hit.

i actually started getting rattle because the bolts holding the cutout valve on were backng out, i fixed it. never had a rattle from the flap or any other part though.

that and a lid were my first mods on my old car. sounded like the car had lt's and ran so much better. when i traded it i capped the cut out and put the stock lid on and my car felt like such a turd.

I did like my cutout too, especially for the price you cant beat it,
but if you wonder why people would spend 500$ or more on a cat back, I suggest you go to ls1sounds.com or to a local club and listen to cars with longtubes, ory and different catback, they will each have a distinct sound / personallity.
I think cut-out are so cool letting go from quiet to super loud, but after owning two cars with them on , I feel like the sound was just not refined for me
plus my cut-out before the axle sahke the hell out the interior , actually was louder inside than out for me
but how about 30$ for one , easy.

35thZ-28 Dec 22, 2005 09:33 AM

yeah i plan on getting longtubes soon, and i have heard many different types of exhaust setups, my 91 chevy truck sounding the best with long tubes, 2 chamber flowmasters and dumps before the axle (no catalytic converter either). That shit sounds better than my Camaro! But for the price the cutouts cant be beat. Cant wait for the longtubes now!

HowellSoccer88 Dec 22, 2005 11:27 AM

so is a cutout worth the money if you have lt's?

35thZ-28 Dec 22, 2005 12:22 PM

yes because you will have less restricted air flow than going through an exhaust system. more air flow= more power.

TroubledWine3 Dec 22, 2005 05:58 PM

I've wondered the same thing. I have LTs, 3" ORY, and the 3" Magnaflow catback. I wonder if the cutout would even help me that much.

spy2520 Dec 24, 2005 11:50 AM

cutout + LTs are beast. pretty much as loud as your car is gonna get just messing with exhaust without running open headers or duals with no mufflers.

99Hawk262 Dec 24, 2005 03:19 PM

I had a cutout placed in my I-pipe before the rear axle and hated it. Yes, the car sounded good, but way too loud inside and very unrefined. That lasted about one month, then it was on to LT's with TD's. I'll never look back now. A cutout is a very cheap horsepower/sound mod. LT's and TD's are a more expensive but much better option in my opinion. My car sounds way better than any cutout I have ever heard. Granted, if money is an option, and it is for most of us, then a cutout gets my vote. But if you have the funds for LT's and a catback/duals, then that is hands down the best thing you can do. Still, congrats on the mod and enjoy that ridiculous sound!! You'll be sure to turn lots of heads.
