Default Aftermarket catback vs aftermarket Mufflers

Have a question, I was going to replace my stock SS exhaust with Magnaflow catback system priced at $600 plus but there was this exhaust local shop for about $300, can install a magnaflow exhaust on my stock pipes and add a descent tips from Borla at that price.I called him up and he says that he has done camaros and is familiar with Z28's. The point is, are there a big significant gains between the two besides the price.

If you have stock manifold I would not spend the cash on a cat-back. Have them install a cut-out. No cat-back out there will outflow a cut-out. And They sound very good on stock manifolds. Wait on the cat-back until you get LT's. Cut-out 34.95+30 install can't realy beat that. Just my .02

Most people don't drive around with a cut-out though. Great for racing purposes, and yes, it will outflow any cat-back.

What are you looking for? Performance or sound?

You can get the MagnaFlow system for alot less than that from a certian Sponsor on the board Also you are right just adding a good Muffler to the stock catback will work well. A good exhaust system will make alot more low and mid range power than a cut out and not give up much hp on top as well.

I called magnaflow when I was trying to make this decision and they said the I pipe is worth about 5hp. You will probably want the bigger I pipe eventually, and this would be a great time to upgrade. Check out some of the sponsors, you can find the whole catback for much less than you were quoted.

Too bad you don't already have LTs, I'd get you buy me some TSP TDs and trade you straight-up for my TSP 3" ORY and Magnaflow catback, but since the ORY won't bolt up to your stock manifolds...I guess not haha.

I just bought and installed my magnaflow catback about two weeks ago and it sounds really good. But most of it is personal preference. I got mine from Nasty Nate (Nasty Performance), who posted at the top, for much much MUCH lower than what you were quoted. Send him a PM, hes a great guy and will definitely work out a great deal with you.
