Got the FLP's on the car!!! I dont condone paying a shop to install youre easy parts for you, so I figured I would tackle hanging the flps by myself. Here are some things I found as I tore more skin off my fingers and forearms than I knew I had. Pulling the drivers side stock manifold off and Y-pipe took me from 9pm till almost 11:30. Copious amount of WD40 were used. Seeing as that I only had 2 jack stands and could only get the nose off the ground made it a little tricky trying to weasel everything out (excessive amounts of skin left in engine compartment). The following day I got the passenger side manifold off. Las 2 bolts were the worst! About an hour to get them out. (More skin left on that side). *Note* If you ever attempt this on your own, take the friggen coil packs off to save your forearms. Mine look like a cheese grater had a field day on them. Then sliding under the car with the passenger side FLP, I wiggled it in. that went alot quicker than I had expected. The driers side wasnt so easy. Ended up destroying a brnd new oil filter that had just been put on it 3 days prior. Once everything was in placed I went to put the O2 sensors in...........oops! To short. Now I have to order some O2 extensions and 2 O2 sims for the car. The FLP's look great in the car and also give you much more room to access the spark plugs. Total band-aid count=5 on one hand Total swear count= lost count when I realised one of the bolt holes was stripped on the head total beers consumed=22 over day and a half time period Just thought I would share with everyone. BTW, also installed the new NX MAF distribution system....that baby is going to be a Killer set up! [ June 10, 2002, 11:57 AM: Message edited by: NataSS Inc ] |
Re: Got the FLP's on the car!!! i finished installing mine a week ago in my garage. Well worth the experience! |
Re: Got the FLP's on the car!!! I just finished installing mine last Friday and I had a problem hooking it up to the catback.(SLP Loudmouth) I had to cut about 5 in. off and I still don't think thats enough because I had to muscle the y-pipe together and it was very hard to get the clamps on. Also it made my car really loud but I think it sounds kind of dumb. By the way I went with no cats. Also I have qeustion the black crossmember that has 4 bolts in it wouldn't fit back on did you all have the same problem? |
Re: Got the FLP's on the car!!! I havent ried to get anything back together yet. My flowmaster mid pipe ran right through the cross member so I dont think is going to be a problem. Tonight i am going to try and test fit everything. I have a cut out and a QTP going on this week so Iam probably going to have to hack some pipe out with for that. the car isnt my daily rig so I can let it sit til I get it right. I can see how getting the clamps on is going to be tough. Its a tight fit right at the collector flange. |
Re: Got the FLP's on the car!!! Took my friend and I a total of 2.5 hours from start to finish to install my FLP's [ June 10, 2002, 06:04 PM: Message edited by: I8COBRA ] |
Re: Got the FLP's on the car!!! Commiserations on the loss of skin, did you have any problems hooking the FLPs up to the existing exhaust? |
Re: Got the FLP's on the car!!! havent got that far yet. Just have the headers hanging on the car. Once my O2 extensions and sims get here I will complete it. I have a flowmaster cat back on it and from what I can tell it shouldnt be to tough. |
Re: Got the FLP's on the car!!! It took me and my friend like 9 hours. It was really starting to piss me off. |
