Hooker Aerochamber/poor man's borla installed!

well, i've got a 99 WS6 with stock exhaust and a Zed-style cutout (right at the bend in the over-axle pipe before it goes into the muffler). i thought i'd do something a little different, so i ordered a single inlet/single outlet Hooker aerochamber muffler (i did not like the way the direct replacement hooker muffler had only 2.25" outlets). i had the muffler shop install this muffler in the stock location and then had them make me a passenger side exit pipe that bolts up to the flange on my Zed-style cutout. they used the stock tips too, so everything appears stock. then i just picked up some 1/16" sheet metal to cut out and use as my "plates", just like the borla system. fully closed with the plate in, this muffler sounds almost as quiet as stock. i found this hard to believe at first since i could see straight thru the muffler! but with the cutout open (no plates), the car sounds much better than it did before with just the Zed cutout. i guess the extra length of pipe helped the sounds a bit (not "truck sounding" like it was before).

anyway, overall i'm pleased. it's still a little too quiet when closed, but i can make some plates with holes in them to adjust for that. i can take some pics this weekend in case anyone wants to see.

I would love to see some pictures of that and maybe sound clips too if you have the means to do either. I thought about doing the same thing using an SLP 2otl system and an electric cutout. I still may do that, but I may use a single in/out muffler like you and build my own system with a pipe coming off of the cutout to maintain a dual outlet appearance. The only draw back is that it will look odd in the winter.

i'll be sure and take some pictures this weekend so i can email ya. i don't really have anything to make a sound clip with, unless you have any ideas? i could check my laptop to see if it has a mic jack on it, though the sound quality may be bad. i agree, it will look funny in the winter with it fully closed, but i may put a different plate in so the exhaust will come out both sides. does anyone know what size holes are in the borla plates?
