Cutting the Frame with QTP's My QTP's are coming soon and I just had the crap scared out of me when I saw someone post pics of his QTP install and it showed he had to cut his Frame on the passanger side. I was wondering how many people this happened to? |
This is not the way its supposed to be installed. I installed my QTP's myself, on a lift. I got it done within 3-4 hours with no cutting, bending, notching or anything. Just take your time and go over everything. |
If a set of headers calls for frame chopping to make them fit, I'd ship them back. You shouldn't have to do that! I've seen more than a few QTP installs in which no cutting of the car was necessary. |
I will be getting some qtps very soon and if they do not fit right, they will be going back for another set. Thats alot of money to have bad fitment. Like lunatic said, take your time and make it right. |
i did my qtp's also on a lift in about 3-4 hrs. no frame cutting i have never heard of that before. :) |
i installed mine in my garage on jackstands and didn't have to cut anything either. |
Installed mine on jackstands as well  The hardest part was getting the car high enough. After that, everything went easy. I didn't have to take anything off other than a heat shield to get the driver side in. Plus, I did the install all by myself. :eek2: |
As much as I disliked the qtp ory pipe I will say there headers fit like a glove.Somethings not right if you have to do any cutting to make them fit.I think pacesetters USED to have that problem. But at the very most you'll have to unbolt the drivers side motor mount and jack the motor up to get it to slide into place.I used large truck jackstands and did it in my driveway. |
When I installed my QTPs they didn't touch the frame or even come close |
Maybe the new batch with the HVMCs are different from some of the earlier builds? Dunno. The passenger side header is about as easy as it gets for a bolt-on install. Headers pretty much fit one way so you're at the mercy of the fabricator. My passenger side header sat on the k-member. There was nothing I could do about it other than bend the primaries or cut the frame. I chose the former. |
