I just did the same swap, put a ram air lower airbox on my reg ta. I just swapped over the metal clips and it worked fine for me. I know sometimes they clamp down really tight for some reason on some cars, some they dont......

Are you missing the insert "cradle" that the air filter
sits in? That accounts for maybe 1/8" of added height
which might be what the clips need.

Yeah, make sure you have the filter all the way in, and the lid seated correctly around that. That could be the extra space you need to clamp it down.

That's a classic sign that you don't have the lid on right.

The front lip of the lid goes down in the groove in the lower airbox, not in front of it.

Well dude... The lip doesn't go down behind the start of the lower airbox.

The area between the clips goes IN the groove in the lower airbox just like the picture above. Any other way and will 'pop' the clips off.

My SLP lid did that for awhile. The lid wouldn't seat right, it ended up being that the lower airbox was to far to the right. I loosened up the four bolts and pulled it to the left and tightened them down at the same time. Clamps haven't come loose and the lid seats properly now.

I had this exact problem with my SLP lid. I eventually figured out that if you take off that rubber ring that came with the car that is between the lid and the MAF and just stick the MAF in directly to the lid than the lid will fit perfectly. I had to do a little shaving to get the MAF to slid right in, but not a lot.
