What's that smell??.....After LT/ORP install
I just started smelling all sorts of aromas only at start-up after my LT/ORP install . I know most of it is the unburned hydrocarbons that the cats used to take care of but it seems like I am also smelling some sort of oil at times when I start the car warm only. It goes away quite fast and I have never seen any puffs of smoke and the car doesn't use any oil (it's maybe down 1/8 of a quart in 2000 miles). I just wonder if all these aromas, including the smell of oil, is normal at start-up after a LT/ORP install? I have Jet Hot coated Hooker's & ORP. I just can't seem to figure out where it would be coming from if the car doesn't use oil and if there is no visual sign of burning oil at startup. Maybe there is some oil residue left on the block from removing the oil diverter plate and when I start the car the fans kick on and blow the smell around and maybe that's what I am smelling......?
Thanks
Paul

I installed my headers saturday and they puffed and smoked after the first start up, then later that day there was a weird smell that was probably some compound in the coating melting off. Did you take off your valve covers during the install? You may have a new leak from them.

I believe it is the coating on the new exhaust. Mine smelled for a few weeks (don't drive it much) and it went away.
Completely normal.
