Cam before Headers?? Need your Opinion
I was kicking around some ideas for my next power mod. I have 4.10s and my car would really benefit from reving out higher. Now for a cam i plan on going with thunder racing's tr224 package for $650, for headers i want QTP's for about $700 with a custom true dual setup done by a shop around here for another $700 but I would sell my catback now for $250-300 making the whole exhaust package about $1300. So would doing a cam be more beneficial first then doing the full exhaust?

You will need a tune with that cam. If you put the cam in, have it tuned, you will leave something on the table later once you add headers and don't have the tune modified.
I would say do the headers and exhaust first. It will make the car alot more fun to. Plus, you will be able to talk yourself into doing a bigger camshaft!

I'm with JayL. I'm in the process of dropping some pacesetter LT's and Y pipe before I even start messing with internals. Every friend of mine who is a mechanic will tell you to let the motor breathe to it's fullest potential. If you can't breathe you can't go.

Let's put it this way, I think I lost power going to a TSP224R... even though I spent some time tuning the car to do around 13:1 A/F on a dynapack... yea, the dynapack told me I made 267whp... lol.
I have yet to be back since then, I think there were other variables that caused me to lose HP too, but the LS1 intake and the fact that the 98-99 exhaust manifolds suck horribly make me wonder. 92k miles at the time, still on factory cats. I had the SLP Dual/Dual with a spintech muffler on the time, as well as an SLP lid but that's all.
We'll see what happens next time.

Agree, headers first, cam second, reason is becuase if you do headers first, you dont *HAVE* to get it tuned because teh car will still run. also, the fun factor is there by having a louder exhaust, THEN once you saveup for the cam, you can tune it all at once. if you did cam first, you owuld have to get it tuned to run good and then after headers tune it again for optimum performance. That is the route i went and im very pleased
