Default WTF...can't find a damn part anywhere

Its the brqass temp sensor that screws into the drivers side head. My car is a 1998 so the wiring in it is still original from the factory. My sensor has a 3 pronge plug, but every parts store I go to that pulls up my year sensor only has 2 pronge sensors. ****** bullshit

I bought one that was a 3 pronge that fit an LS1 engine for another type of GM car for that year, but then the damn threads were to big (diameter-wise) and won't fit in the f$%#&^ hole.

Any ideas on this crap?

Dealer maybe. Or what about a junkyard? IIRC there used to be big f-body yard up in the holleywood area but that was back in '98-02 time frame.

I think the 3 prong is what made the 98's read accurate temp reading on the guage, maybe GM replaced it now with the 2 prong (dummy guage)?

If they went to a 2 pronge and don't make the 3 pronge anymore, this means I have to change the wiring in the car

Others don't realize how hard this part is to get. When I replaced mine last year I just ordered it from SDPC because they knew exactly what to look for. The oil pressure sending unit is the same way.

BTW - I wouldn't mess with the cheap junk auto parts sell when it comes to engine sensors, always buy GM parts.

Only problem is, whenever some parts place says they have it, the damn threads on the sensor are either twice the diameter or they are only a 2 pronge sensor.

One smart feller tonight at a Discount Auto pulled up the picture on his screen of the right one. He said your having a problem finding it because you are asking everyone for a 1998 Pontiac Trans Am 5.7L "Coolant temp sensor". He said, "you have to tell them you have a WS6". And he was right. He inputed regular T/A info and the big fat WRONG one came up, then he put in WS6 and the correct one came up.....WTF!!!!

Why would WS6 matter? Weren't the heads the same on any 1998 Pontiac Firebird?

They don't stock mine Hopefully the dealer has the little ******* in stock.

For sensors and important parts, I always use the dealer. The PN# is right on, whereas the local parts stores are nice for oil and ****, but usually the people working there are ignorant and you'll have a difficult time finding a proprietary part, like said temperature sensor

BTW, the above diagram is from my 700MB PDF of all 4th gen parts, assembly, and part numbers for all engines and transmissions as well as the entire vehicle, Camaro or Firebird.

Anyone is welcome to it, just PM me and I'll host it on my server for download. $9 on Ebay, but free to my bretheren

The PDF has been uploaded to a server, but it's 580MB total.

1) It'll take awhile to download, even with high-speed internet.

2) DO NOT, please, give the link to anyone. My webhost will go nuts and shut the hosting down for bandwidth if everyone starts downloading it. I'll give you the link, all that I ask is that you keep it to yourself.

3) Do not resell it for profit. People will buy this, and it's great info. But I'm providing it for free, so do the same.
