getting dynatech's, which collector WON'T leak? I am ordering dynatech's from jegs, I am getting the stepped version 1 3/4"- 1 7/8" jegs sells collectors (but it doesn't look like they sell the merge version. get the merge and have a leak? or do they all slip on and leak (looks like they all hook onto the 4 header tubes and can leak?) jegs has a 3.5" standard slip on collector for $99 these are the 3.5" choices primary size 1.75" 1.875" 2" 2.125" which to get? or get the merge collector? will one not leak? I will be doig the flowmaster 6" mufflers, duals with turn downs just like george c. help with the collector! what are you guys running for a collector? part#? |
Re: getting dynatech's, which collector WON'T leak? I have the Dynatechs. Both of the collector types mount the same way. I have found no evidence of leaking on the collectors. Since the header tubes fit INTO the collector and are further upstream in the exhaust, they expand quickly and do not leak. Shane |
Re: getting dynatech's, which collector WON'T leak? IF you get the coated headers, make sure that you silicone the collectors on using some hightep stuff like "ultra copper". If you can slide the collector on with out using a hammer, then they will have a greater chance of leaking. The car will stumble, run rich at idle, hesitate, and really annoy you. Why do you want a 3.5 collector? a 3" with 1.875 primaries is what you need with the stepped version. IMO 3.5 is too large. Re: getting dynatech's, which collector WON'T leak? If you're doing the exhaust similar to mine, you won't have any issues with the collectors leaking. Mine are just slightly "sooty" around the tubes going in to the collector, but it is a very small amount. The merge collectors are quite a bit more expensive. I don't know that they would be worth the extra $$$. I have regular 3" collectors on my car, but may experiment with the stepped header/3.5" collector sometime in the future. [ September 04, 2002, 08:51 PM: Message edited by: GeorgeC ] |

Re: getting dynatech's, which collector WON'T leak? if the collectors leak (like mine are right now) it will run rich as shit at idle but being a smallish type leak...just put some copper RTV on the primaries and in the collector before assembling (I should've done this) I'll be doing this before too long |

Down at the collector, you only see temps in the 5-600 range, maybe a little more, but the Ultra Copper will not deteriorate. It doesnt take much to make the O2 sensor read lean. As soon as it reads lean, it adds fuel.....then it runs pig rich, and stumbles, hesitates, and it will really annoy you!! |
