FLP's and Hotcam installed today. Got home earlier this evening after having the FLP's and Hotcam installed - HOLY SHIZNIT Batman!!!! I'm still running cats and it is still LOUD with the wide open Borla - and I have NO idea where the plates are too anymore LOL! Did some quick ATapping with both stock MAF and the Whisper - pig rich on the stocker, and just a tad rich on the Whisper (whereas before it was WAY lean!) Will do some more fine-tuning with the MAFT in the next couple days. Some quick notes on the whole install - no issues with clearance of the FLP's (oil drain plug or steering gear) and no floor banging like some have reported (they did redesign the y-pipe though). The car idles with the hotcam no prob, just a little lumpety lumpety *L*. The car now rolls the DR's over at will at anything above 3 grand rpm in first gear and annilates 'em on the 1-2 shift as well. My next plan was for 4.10 gears, I'm going to have to re-evaluate that with my newfound traction "problems" :-/ Gonna hit the track this weekend for some hard numbers . |
Re: FLP's and Hotcam installed today. Sweet, can't wait to see them numbers! I have the Borla, and am planning on the FLP's. Any thing that I should know before hand? Did you do the install yourself? I want a cam, but gonna have to wait on that one. Congrats on the new mods, post the times when you run her! Later |
Re: FLP's and Hotcam installed today. Take your cats off. I have the FLP's/Hotcam combo and it made a world of difference removing the cats. Plus it will sound much better. [ September 13, 2002, 09:32 PM: Message edited by: george ] |
Re: FLP's and Hotcam installed today. slppontiac - made a deal with my local dealer...if they did the install, they'd honour my warranty - works for me . I was talking to the guy who did the work and it all went pretty smoothly - no "issues". The kit comes complete, you'll just need 02 simms to go with it. george, that's a nice feature with the FLP's - you can pop the cats in/out in a matter of minutes. |
Re: FLP's and Hotcam installed today. Great setup im ready for the numbers.. with hotcam and SLP long tubes.. through the cats.. 351/364 |
Re: FLP's and Hotcam installed today. So you are running the hotcam with only MAFT and having no problems ? I would love to put a cam in but was just unsure of how my A4 would react to a Hotcam or similar without tuning. |
Re: FLP's and Hotcam installed today. Sounds like a nice setup! I Dyno'd 372Rwhp with the hotcam and Macs. I kind of wish i had the true longtubes now but these are serving the purpose nicely. Trying out ls1 Edit now. Hope your Track times are good. I'm completly happy with the hotcam. Just other things i need like heads and intake... |

That's more to correct the rich condition caused by the headers though than to make adjustments for the cam. So to answer your question - no problems . Mine is a 6-speed though, I've read that with an automatic the idle may be a bit low/erratic (can be corrected by drilling the hole larger in the throttle plate) - that's not a big deal though. Even with a 6-speed a friend with a '02 and the hotcam had to drill the thottle plate to raise the idle - runs perfect now . Tim, those are great numbers for a hotcam/headers car! I'd be happy as a pig in **** if I can anywhere near that *L* - I'm currently battling some (false) KR issues.... KR [ September 14, 2002, 06:03 PM: Message edited by: BillWS6Formula ] |
Re: FLP's and Hotcam installed today. congrats man! Throw in the offroads and get the 4.10s you will drop about 4 tenths from that alone with hook cheers, Chris |
Re: FLP's and Hotcam installed today. Hey Chris, thanks! How ya gettin' on...hope Tronna is still treating ya good! Man, I don't know about the 4.10's now what with how bad traction is already on Nitto's LOL! Got the winter to think about it though...heading to the track this Sunday to get some times. A buddy with a '02 WS6 MN6 has pretty well the exact mods as I do right down to the Borla and clear lid. He had his Hotcam and FLP's installed just before last track day and his times dropped from a best of 13.1x at 109ish to 12.7 at 113 on Nitto's! And that was before we did some ATaping and leaning out with a MAFT. Myself, I'll be MORE than happy with anything beginnging with "12" *L*. |
Re: FLP's and Hotcam installed today. Glad it worked otu, sounds like major fun! |
Re: FLP's and Hotcam installed today. Just took some pics...will post a link to some higher res pics tomorrow...this is all Imagestation allows now The angle of the pics don't show it well, but the clearance from the headers to the steering knuckle is well over an inch and about an inch and a half between the oil drain plug and the headers. The y-pipe hangs at about the same level as stock. |
Re: FLP's and Hotcam installed today. Looks good! Thanks for the compliment. I'm getting some false KR also all of a sudden after i put a muffler on. It's only under a load in mid rpm's. I'm almost positive it has something to do with the muffler it's just finding out what!. I feel your pain. But with the Dump open it flows good and 0 KR. |
Re: FLP's and Hotcam installed today. I've been battling the KR since the car was new - it comes and goes for no apparent reason and it always less than 4*. All the usual rememdies failed to affect it whatsoever (race gas, checking for banging under the car from exhaust part, etc.). It was really killing my timing advance, but I've been able to band-aid that now with an HPP3 and non-RGF tuning. Will swap in some new knock sensors over the winter and/or try Tony's knock out box. All in the name of science! Higher res pics now at http://community.webshots.com/album/50136867mQroib [ September 15, 2002, 10:15 AM: Message edited by: BillWS6Formula ] |
