Did Pacesetter lt's yesterday

Everything went easier than expected, lots of help from reading all the posts on here. I got rid of the AIR and EGR. I was confused on the "frost plug" for the EGR until I read more this morning. The one I ended up getting was actually called an expansion plug, 1 3/8"-1 1/2" diameter. We put both headers in from the bottom, removed the #5 cylinder spark plug to get the driver side in. Only problem was getting the oil dipstick tube out, it didn't break, but I mangled the end pretty good and have a new one ordered.

ORY with race style coated headers. About six hours with one person helping, including removing the emissions stuff.

Because it runs in between the primary tubes for #4 and #6 cylinders.....can't remove/install headers with it in place.

Dealership. I didn't even ask the price, but the "list" price on gmpartsdirect.com was $8.99.

so do you have to drain your oil to do this? and how do you remove your dipstick?

Im asking because i ordered pacesetters and I just want a heads up..

98RedZone Apr 16, 2006 01:06 PM

No, you dont have to drain the oil. I think it actually goes into the block right above the pan, around the front of the starter. There is a bolt in the head you take out, then just pull on it. Hopefully your comes out easier than mine, I ended up grabbing it with channel locks, and I still had to pull hard, and try twisting and rotating it.

blackbird00 Apr 16, 2006 01:14 PM

i took mine out also but for got to screw it back in so its sitting there loose but it wont go anywhere and you really cant even tell. unless u tug on it

GR33N GoblinM6 Apr 16, 2006 01:40 PM

ok... anything else that has to be removed when installing these headers?
