Need help installing SLP LT's please.
 

Lost the instructions for installing them on my '02 SS. Anyone have the instructions that came with the kit? Post them or email me at (syancey1@hotmail.com). If you don't have the ones that came with the kit, a good link to doing the install would be great. TIA

There should be plenty of info. in the search portion of this board. Go to the search option and type in slp header install and you should get mucho info. However, you can also find a wealth of info on ls1info.com. If I remember correctly, there is an SLP header install document. I do know that there is both an FLP and a Hooker install document. Use both of these to aid your installation. I think that the main difference if any, is that the SLPs will require that you move the tranny over to get one of the headers in.

I have a m6 and I had to take off the tranny mount and push the tranny to one side while my friend pulled the header up, this has to be done on both sides because they will not clear the bell housing otherwise! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />
If you haven't found the info yet, let me know and I will scan my instructions and email them to you.

My tips are, Take your plugs out and take out the coolant temp sensor on the drivers side and plug it. Those are the most common broken parts when left in. They recommend taking out your oil filter, but I didn't and put a small dent in it, which didn't hurt until my next oil change. But if you need to do a oil change, that would be a good time, otherwise be careful because they are a tight fit. Also use the heat shield they privide in their install kit on any wires next to the headers even if they have a factory harness around them. yeah ok I thought I had replied to list night...I know i spent a while typing out my method for you but I guess it didn't go through <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

Well here goes...

Driver Side: Piece of cake. I did take my oil filter off to gain clearence and I may have unbolted the steering shaft but I don't believe that was neccessary.

Passenger side: Royal pain in the ass. The driver side took me about 30 minutes this side took me about 10 hours. I don't know what kinda steroid users we got on this board but unbolting the tranny mount and "prying" the motor to the side was just not happening.

I removed the starter and then I unbolted the motor mount from the block. I did not slide out the one bolt that goes through the mount because it hit my AC compressor and I could not get it out but you may not have that problem. But anyway after the motor mount is disconnected you can then jack the motor up and it gives you plenty of clearence to slide the header up into place. On this side REMOVE THE PLUGS you need all the space you can get. If you are doing this on jackstands in your garage, get the car as high as possible. I maxed out my jack getting the car up on the jack stands.

On a side note one thing I did not like about the SLP "kit" was how the dealt with the wiring. I don't know if they still do this but mine came with some orange coated fiberglass wrap thing that just plain looks like a hack job. For the passenger side it routs the wires for the starter and I believe the 02 sensors in the stock location which was dangerously close to the header as far as I am concerned. My suggestion is to use 02 harness extensions and what I ended up doing was splicing into the wire for the starter making it longer and then running the wires straight back to the firewall and then down. This kept all wires away from anything that might have any chance to burn them.

I did this right when the headers first came out so I don't know if they have made any changes but good luck.

Thanks for all the responses guys. Today I got everything off of the car. Sunday is when I will be able to finish up. Is it ABSOLUTELY necessary to take the pass. side coils unit off, because I don't know how to possibly get that last bolt in the back off (I don't think it will matter now since I already have the plugs/wires off). I was running out of light today & decided to see just how tough it was going to be to get the pass side header to fit & looks like I'm going to have the same PITA problems as everyone else re: fitment. Any more helpful suggestions??
