Very Disappointed In Hooker LT's!

I got my headers awhile ago and finally had time to install them. All went well on the passenger side but the drivers side is terrible. I dont know how to explain this but the header comes off the motor and goes down along side of it and as it starts to turn out it hits the frame. I tightned the header on and noticed that it was tight against the frame of the car and it scratched my jet hot coating off. I don't know what to do anymore. I grinded and cut part of the frame but it still needs lots more room. I am lost. I can get the header tight but i am afraid if I drive it that header right against the car is gonna mess something up bad. I am not a happy man right now . I read the post about the header on the K member I don't know if this is the same problem it might be. I don't know all the terms for the car. Do you guys have any ideas on what I can do? and how bad will my header be affected by the coating being scratched off. I wanna make it work somehow cause I really want headers! Sorry I don't have any pics for ya.
Thanks
Jeremy

Re: Very Disappointed In Hooker LT's!

When I did my younger brothers header install with his hookers I had the drivers side in and bolted in 12 minutes it was easy, no rubbing or anything. The passenger side took alot fo work for us. Just different tolerances in the frame of the car and headers will lead people to get different results I guess. The coating will normally get scratches in it when installing them. I try to be careful but it still ends up with a few scratches no matter what kind of headers I put in.

Maybe try loosening the motor mount on the drivers side and lifting the engine up some and see if it slides in better... dont know really what to tell you.

Thanks for the advice 2000 ws6. It is wierd how we had problems with different sides. I got the drivers side in already it is just tight against the frame for some damn reason. I'll check the motor mounts out. How do I move the motor just jack it up and try to push it over? I'll look into that this weekend.

Anyone else have any ideas?

the Hooker QC must be really horrible.....some people have reported probs. But mine and lots others went on effortlessly and overall is a good piece. Except for the ****** o2 bung on the driver's side (which even wasn't really that bad on mine) I would highly recommend the hookers to anyone.

Re: Very Disappointed In Hooker LT's!

I read so many horror stories about LT instalation that I was terrified when I pulled my Z into my garage to put my Hookers on this week...but I ran in to no problems. It was a tight fit, but they went in with no problems. My car is lowered, and I had heard that the Hookers were the only LT's that would tuck up close enough to the car that I wouldnt scrape over everything. Overall I am thoroughly pleased with them...except for the loss of bottom end torque (which is made up in the top end!!) and my gas mileage...it also went down just a bit. Has anyone else noticed a slight drop in gas mileage...or is it just my heavy foot testing out my new-found power and sound?

TAKE YOUR HEADERS OFF THE CAR AND RETURN THEM TO THE PLACE OF PURCHASE! Demand a full refund.

Re: Very Disappointed In Hooker LT's!

I was wondering if I could get a refund or at least a different drivers side header. I understand that it can be a tight fit but this is way too tight when the header is smashed right against the frame to the point I can only tighten the bolts so far on to the head to me it seems like it could be a bad header or something. I got them from jet hot and I know it isn't there fault but should I contact them or hooker. If I was to get a different header I would want another coated one without paying for the damn thing but I doubt that any company would even just let me do an exchange like that. Thanks guys keep the ideas comin!!

Almost everyone i have talked has problems with the Passenger side. Left side are normally not a problem unless something has shifted.

Bent mine with a long pry bar about 1/4" (didn't dent tube, bent whole thing in). Works great now.

Re: Very Disappointed In Hooker LT's!

Well I actually got under the car today with a pry bar and sure enough I moved the header away from the k member somewhat. Now instead of being tight to the car there is a thin little space. I put a chunk of heater hose in there and will give that a shot and if it don't work I'll have to grind more on the k member. Installing the y pipe actually pulled the header over some too. Now I just got to wait for damn winter to end so I can get my car out and see if it all works right.

Thanks for all the advice!
