Is removing the AIR system worth it?
Is removing the AIR system worth it? I will be installing headers next week and will be removing the EGR from the car. Is it worth it to remove the AIR system at the same time?

Re: Is removing the AIR system worth it? The biggest reason for me was getting more crap out of the way! Plus, it saved about 5lbs of wt.
Since you're already taking the EGR off, you won't be smog legal anyway so I'd keep the AIR system off. (Oh, you will need to delete the AIR codes unless you want the light on, though)

After I disconnect the AIR pipes from the manifolds and disconnect the pump, the hoses will be able to be pulled out correct? I can't really see where they go after they go towards the firewall...

Re: Is removing the AIR system worth it? I have my intake off now. My question is are the air tubes the polished lines lying in the middle. If so do I just take them out and everything they connect to all the way back to the firewall. Also if those are not the air tubes where are they and is there anything else I can safely remove.

Unbolt them from the manifolds. Pull out those tubes from the rubber hoses. Take off the driver side panel under the front end. Unbolt the pump itself and disconnect the hoses from it. Pull the hoses out from the top and the pump out from the bottom. 5 minute job

Re: Is removing the AIR system worth it? Thanks, my headers are in, a friend of mine is making block off plates for me today while he is at work. All I have left is the oil dipstick, the block off plates and pulling out the AIR pump.

Re: Is removing the AIR system worth it? I just got the AIR pump out. Very easy, now I gotta run to Ace and get some shorter bolts to put the block off plates on.

Re: Is removing the AIR system worth it? It's not as simple as looking for just codes, they look to see if the "readiness flags" are set. If not (I think you can have 1 or 2 off and still pass) then you don't pass. I haven't checked on my car to see what happens to the flags when I delete tests. Simply setting the light for a code to "off" will not stop a test from being run and fail and I'm not sure what the flag says is you delete the test in LS1 Edit. (Luckly, I don't have a reason to care in Mich!)

Re: Is removing the AIR system worth it? Can you program with LS1 Edit or something to make the computer think the tests were successful? Basically, can you make the computer look like everything tests OK even if you don't have AIR/EGR etc hardware in place?

Re: Is removing the AIR system worth it? Does anyone know if you need the AIR if you are running CATS? I thought I read somewhere that the AIR system warms them up or something. I'm adding carsound CATS and I'm not sure if I need to reconnect the AIR system or not. TIA
Re: Is removing the AIR system worth it? i know in my state with the obd-2 testing 96-97 up to 2000 cars you can have two codes missing (EGR and AIR) works perfectly. for newer cars you can only have one code missing.
