Installing Dampner Bolt...What's That Orange Stuff?

What was that orange sealer or lock-tite type stuff that was on the bolt washer base only, when I removed it? What should I reinstall it with? Oil on the threads only & removeable type locking material at the base of the washer? Or what? Thanks...Ed <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />

Re: Installing Dampner Bolt...What's That Orange Stuff?

You should replace it with a brand new bolt. That's sort of like locktite, it helps bind the bolt to the pulley. You not only want to replace it for that stuff, but the bolt itself is really prone to rolling the corners when you retighten it.

Basically you use an old bolt and torque down to 240 ft-lbs OR where the face of the crank is 3.5mm or so from the face of the pulley. Remove the bolt and replace it with a new one. Then you torque that one into place to 37 ft-lbs then rotate an additional 140 degrees. I only go about 110 degrees or so because that's all I can get without rolling the corners on the bolt head.
