Do your FLP's bang the floor

First FLP sends me the wrong year headers, but they exchanged the one header. Then they send me another complete set and I have to spend the time to return the extra set (well I didn't *have* to legally, but I did the right thing). Now the sponsor I bought them from tells me that no one else is having a problem.

So far to fix the problem we have bent the floor in, bent the Y-pipe down, installed a 1LE trans mount and installed an engine restraint strap. I guess I will also have to install the heater hose mod.

Sorry I had to vent!

I had some banging on my QTPs but I used hose clamps and some rubber hosing. Banging all fixed. It was quick and easy to do. Good luck.

Sorry that you are having this problem. I had FLP install my headers and I have no banging at all. Even crossing railroad tracks that are pretty rough I get no banging.

Very few people are having the banging issue but it seems that you have it bad. Do the heater hose mod. The headers are great. I have been reading issues about all the header brands so I guess if it is not one thing it is another.

Keep with it, it will work out in the long run.

I've done three sets now...........they all banged, but it's no big deal to remedy. I had a chance one day to look at a car that FLP did the install on and they achieved much more clearance, you could actually see pry marks on the y pipe and floor pan, I didn't want to do this!

The only thing that ever banged was the Y-pipe, because it was hitting the floorboards, all I did was pry it down, and now it hits the speed bumps instead..

mine banged when I would take off from a stop and when I shifted into 2nd and 3rd gears. (from the motor torquing over) I tried prying around a bit but it didn't seem to help much. 10 minutes, a length of power steering hose, and 2 self tapping screws applied to the bottom of the floorplan remedied the problem and it hasn't made another noise over the last year.

Mine bangs A WHOLE LOT!!!!!! After $1300 I'm very dissapointed.

I also have another problem; the car now smells like burning tar. FLP said to remove the cats; like I would prefer to be legal, Thanks....

Consequently, I would not recommend this product at any cost.

I had the banging and went to a polyurethane transmission mount. Banging is gone!

I have FLP banging problem too! Especially when the engine is cold! This sucks! When I had my TTS headers, I had no banging problem at all!!! Also, my car made more rwhp with the TTS though the cats!!!! I lost about 7 rwhp after installing the FLP with NO CATS!!!

But, the FLP has more ground clearance than the TTS.

I should have stayed with my TTS headers!!

They seem to have the least issues of any LTs offered for LS1s. Too bad they don't come with an ORY though (or do they now?). I'd hate to pay for cats just to gut them. I'm not a beleiver in cats; emissions are for ecno cars

Re: Do your FLP's bang the floor

Seems that every LT header out there has issues. Read that TTS headers you had to bang the firewall. If we went just a little to far you may effect gas pedal travel, also had to shave the block, etc. Hooker/Jet Hot have had current issues with scraping the frame.

My point is all LT headers will have issues as there is very little space for them and GM tolerances very from car to car. It really seems like it is a hit or miss kind of thing.

And with the price of the LT, you cannot afford (at least I can't) to try one set, then try another till you find one that works.

They all perform roughly the same. Buy a set you like. If there are issues then do your best to fix them.

Just my .02
