Default gap in rear of air lid

I bought my car and it already had an aftermarket air lid with no name on it. I had the hood open one day to just look everything over for the first time, and while I had the lid off, I noticed the back off the lid(maf side) was warped looking. So I put a small flashlight on top of the filter pointed towards the motor and closed it up, and sure enough I could see about 1/8 inch gap between the lid and filter. That kind of explained all the debree on the maf screen. And I have no idea how long the previous owner was sucking unfiltered air. So I went and bought a new slp lid, put it on, and it seemed to fit much better. Went to cut the bottom of the box for the free ram air and noticed a gap in the same place with the slp air lid So while I had it off, I put 5/16 inch weather stripping all around the lid and it seems to of sealed up now, just wondering if anyone ever noticed this or if other airlids fit better. I hope my rings haven't been damaged by sucking dirty air.

No problems with my slp lid.
Were all the tabs on your lid properly locked into the retaining notch's?

Yes, I had all four in the slots, and was thinking it was a problem on the bottom of the housing instead of the lid but everything was straight.

Does it have the SLP Bellows on it? That can cause your lid not to seal if it is not trimmed properly. Drove me nuts for 2 reasons..

1) I was an idiot and bought the SLP bellows in the first place.(It was before coming here)
2.) After wasting 50 bucks on the thing I needed to trim it so that my airlid would seal properly.

Man, I'm sorry to say i don't know what else to do for that damn thing.
Some weather stripping should work to seal it up just fine, just won't look as clean.
I have heard of other's having the same problem, so maybe they will chime in with a good fix.

Very common problem. I've shown 3 f-body owners that there lid was doing the same thing. Without a clear lid it's not noticable enough. I'm guessing over 60% of the people with aftermarket lids have a gap back there. Maybe even more.

I'm beginning to think that over time (and miles), our lower airbox bases/radiator covers warp from heat and the elements somewhat. As was mentioned, this is exacerbated by inflexible aftermarket maf to throttle body connectors.
