How much HP gain will this get me... So eventually I am dropping an LS1 in my SS, but that is a couple years down the line, after paint, suspension, wheels/tires, and interior... So my question is this, I want more performance out of the mediocre 305 (180-190HP/225-245ft lbs TQ) until the new engine. I am having headers put on, K&N airfilter, TRUE 2.5" dual exhaust with high flow cats and an x pipe, and am switching to an electric fan and installing a "BECOOL" radiator. I am guessing 20-30 HP gain? Any ideas on how much gain this will give will be greatly appreciated

Your putting a LS1 in your monte carlo is a couple years? Until then you want to know what the mentioned mods will add to your current engine?
The 305 is a real dog. I don't know too much about it. I could see headers and true duals getting you 20-30 hp. The stock exhaust on that is probably pretty restrictive. Switching to electric fans usually doesn't gain more than a few hp.

i'd spend as little on the 305 as you can and just save up for the swap, the fan would be used on the new motor as well so that'll work. If ya want it to go fast for now just spray it till it falls apart!

Haha spray it til it falls apart...too funny! Thanks for the replies, I am putting very little in it until I get the LS1, just want a little more kick until then. It's funny though, it feels pretty damn fast off the line, just because of the torque. Thanks again:-)

I had a 305 Formula and will be the first to tell you...don't waste any money on it! Either save for the LS1 swap, or buy parts with an eye towards a future 350 upgrade. The LS1 swap would be sweet, but it might be more practical to do a Gen I 350 upgrade...

Don't forget the ported TB for those 305s. I got one for my 92 RS. You could also put on a larger truck TB.
But on the other hand...I wouldn't spend any more on it and just throw it in the piggy bank for your swap.
