What's the quietest muffler??

Hey guys, the search function is broken, so I tried... lol. What is the quietest bullet type muffler? And regular muffler? Thanks, Steve.

I have the large Bassani system. It was pretty quiet but not after gutting the cats and installing a cam. In retrospect, , since I wanted it to be quiet, I may have been well served to leave the stock system in there and just install a cutout.

Stock muffler, I run it and a cutout. It's a lot of fun to scare people with too

hooker is the quietest. but with LT's, ORY and full throttle, it can be loud. :drive:

ultra flow is pretty quiet. but loud on WOT

if you can find a used SLP dual/dual, that's the quietest...they are discontinued tho
hooker would be next on the list

My father-in-law has a single 3" Dynomax Racing Muffler, straight through. He has SLP LTs, big cam, and a cutout. When the cutout is shut, sounds like a bone stock car. It actually looks like a v-6 from the rear, b/c of the single non-chrome exhaust tip. You'd never know that it was a 10 second car. Kinda sneaky ;)

do you have any sound clips of this? I had a 3" dynomax straight through muffler before i got my dual/dual and the difference is night and day

Well, I'm going to do true duals dumped before the axle. It's a '98 LS1, LT, TR224, ORY no cats. I would like to use a bullet type muffler on each side due to space issues. So what do you think would be the quietest bullet style muffler? Thanks

iamsickofitall Sep 15, 2006 08:30 PM

moroso spiral flow's are quiet bullet style mufflers

SSDoubleK Sep 15, 2006 10:08 PM

My old SLP dual dual was quiet, sold that system for 110.00 :)

badpewter-z Sep 15, 2006 10:20 PM

slp dual/dual :judge: seen a few stock z28 cat backs blow the packing out and sound terrible. ive got the d/d and cutout setup and love it great sound and not to loud unless you want it to be that day :)

i had sweet thunders before and it was way to loud for everyday use

lsx24 Sep 16, 2006 01:19 PM

I heard the dual/dual is the quietest because they came on SLP's versions of the fbody cars from the factory, therefore they had to be somewhat quiet compared to typical aftermarket exhausts.

random tech catbacks are full 3 in. and are quiet/ good sounding.. Just get some tips.. aluminized version is around 300-350, stainless around 600.. They also flow really well..

No, I don't have any sound clips, but I may see if I can get one. I am not talking about the dynomax bullet. Those things are really loud :) . This is just the regular shaped muffler, just straight through. I forgot to say that he also does not have any cats on the car, just a given here in Oklahoma. I also have these dynomax's (3" dual) on my 69 chevelle. Just has a low deep rumble while cruising around. They will start screaming in the upper rpm range though. Nothing like the loud flowmasters I have on my Z.

I'm so tired of people saying a setup such as this sounds like a bone stock car just to get a point across of how loud it is with open headers, open cutout with no cats, etc...

a lot of you haven't heard a bone stock f-body in quite sometime, they are VERY, VERY quiet (especially for what they are). the setup you just described is about 30x louder than the stock setup.

:eyes: Excuse the piss out of me :twak: Your right. I haven't heard a bone stock f-bod in a while. But I will try to get you a sound clip so you can hear it. I have some videos, but they are with the cutout open. Sorry for trying to make a comparison :disgust:

Another vote here for the SLP dual/dual. Before I got my Corsa, there was no way to tell I had a cam/LTs/ORY. Definitely the way to go.
