Default Quietest yet HIGHEST flowing muffler on the market?

Hi guys,
Though my wife has been VERY supportive of my car hobby she is finding the car much too loud haha
I am going to swap out my dynomax race magnum 3 inch bullet muffler with something a little quieter. I am going to install a 3 inch cutout in the intermediate pipe so I can get max flow at the track but need something that is high flowing but not deafening for the street.
Any advice? I really like the dynomax line. Is the 3 inch Ultrflo fairly quiet? What are some other quiet but very highflow mufflers?
Thanks again,
Chris

Harlan has the Dynomax, and on the rare occasion that he actually runs thru the muffler it is very quiet. He also only loses a small amount of boost. Now I know a turbo car is going to be quieter than an NA car, but his is the only dynomax around that I've heard. The dual dual that come on my Hawk was extremely quiet. Tony seems to like his a lot too. I think those are your 2 best bets as far as quiet goes.

Do you know what model dynomax though?
Is it the 3 inch ultraflo? I have cats on the car so with the right muffler it will be very quiet I hope hahah
thanks again,
Chris

Yeah I think it's the ultraflow. I'm not 100% positive though. maybe 95%

Chris just run the stock catback, it works well for me. I only lose 25rwhp through it, lol.

I think the quietest yet highest flowing would probably be the SLP Dual/Dual. I know it's a VERY GOOD flowing exhaust and it is MUCH quieter compared to most aftermarket exhausts. You could try one of those with a cutout welded in if ya need more flow.

You can probably pick one up for like $300ish.

dynomax is the way to go (or magnaflow). both have straight thru designs and are fairly quiet for normal driving. 'cept when you get on them, they sound badass. i had a dynomax ultraflow on my old t/a and will be putting one on the new ws6. i don't like driving around having everyone's grandma looking over at me when i'm two miles away. with an slp y-pipe and jba headers, with gutted cats, it was fairly quiet just idling, but when i got on it...wow.
anyways, there is nothing better than a staight thru design and the muffler shop that put it on the car had an idependent guy do a test on some of the most popular mufflers and the dynomax flowed the best.

I agree, I checked my dua/dual before it was mounted on the car and it is a see thru muffler. You can look in one pipe and see out the other one. It is quieter than stock at low-rpm. I've seen dual/duals go for as little as $200 as well

Terry, what size is the stock exhaust? I have an FLP y-pipe, how did you make it work with yours?

Chris, the Dynomax is a good choice. I have the Magnaflow, which is very similar in design (straight-thru), stainless, a little quieter, but deeper, than the Dynomax. I put this muffler in place of the SLP muffler that came with my dual-dual, and I love it. With the LT's and ORP, it sounds deep and mean, without being too loud. And the straight-thru designs of the Dynomax and Magnaflow HAVE to outflow the dual-dual, although I don't have proof of that (I think Xtrooper does, though).

Part # for the Magnaflow is 14267.

It's 2 3/4" I believe. My TTS ypipe plugged right in to it.

It's almost a straight through.

The tailpipe tubes are straight through to each other, but the connection from the inlet to the tailpipes is via the internals of the muffler. The inlet dead ends into a peforated tube, and the tailpipes are connected via another perf tube. The exhaust has to flow out one set of holes, through the packing in the muffler, and out the oher set of holes.

the dynomax is true straight though.

SLP 2OTL. Straight thru to two exhaust pipes. quiet at idle and sounds very muscular at WOT.

y2k, I was about to post the same thing. The dual-dual is not a straight-thru design.

I talked to Tony about this when I was looking at alternatives to my Mufflex. He's been running one for a long time, and he said that he felt it was good for 375 RWHP or so before you started to lose some power through it. IMO, that's pretty good, especially considering how quiet it is! I'd watch the classifieds for a good, used one. Also, post up to find one. I did this a few months ago, and I had 4 or 5 e-mails in no time with guys interested in selling their SLP dual/dual.

I have TTS longtubes, ARE 3" ORP with 3" collector, and then 4" Mufflex. It's really too loud for daily driving, not that I drive the car everyday.

How about the SLP 2otl for a car like mine? I would run thru cutouts at the track anyway.

I might source a dual'dual.
