Need Help. What is this used for???

I am doing a carb setup on my ls1 in my notch and forgot about this until I was fabing my headers.

Above the oil filter there is a nipple with 2 bolts on each side that point upward about an inch or so. What is this used for? Thanks.

That's the oil diverter.
