Default Burnt valve b/c of c/o's at collector?

I was told by my dumbass boss when I was deployed that a cut out at the collector will burn a valve... I'm ditching my cats this week in favor of dual cutouts at the collectors. -Just for the track or when I feel like making noise..

I take it he's full of it, but I figured I'd ask....

T/F???

False. I have also heard people say that you can warp a rod. Now. I would not run open stock manifolds. I think that is way too close to the head, but off the collector of a long tube or through a catalytic converter you should be fine. However....kiss your O2 sensors good-freakin-bye!

the things i've ever heard is you'll screw up a valve if you have an exhaust leak at the header manifolds... if you are running cats.. LTs and high flow cats... i would do the cut-outs after the cats if the car has to go thru state inspection

I don't have emissions or inspections. My buddy got pulled over in his TA, had his cutouts uncorked, and the cop didn't say anything.

My question is, can I replace my cats w/ cutouts? In other words, can I run cutouts at the collector? I don't see any point at putting them anywhere except on the y-pipe cause I've got the Borla w/o a plate. -Pointless otherwise.

How would the o2's get a bad reading? Wouldn't that happen on an ORY?

the (front) o2s may get a bad reading if your cutout is too close to them because they won't heat up properly. If that cool air hits them they will get confused as fu*k

If the cutouts are too close to the oxygen sensors, they'll end up reading the oxygen from the ambient air in addition to what is coming out of the engine. That's what people are referring to...if it reads that oxygen, it'll dump more fuel to compensate for what it "thinks" is a lean condition. It would only happen at lower exhaust flow though (like idle, and maybe cruise). WOT wouldn't matter though since the O2 sensors are not referenced under those conditions.

I have cutouts at the collectors and i am thinking about getting a 6-8" piece of pipe to make the pipe a lil longer when the cutouts are open.....

Actually it would affect WOT because if it reads enough outside air to drive up LTFT's from say 0 to +6, it will then add 6% more fuel at WOT as well. So your WOT mixture would be richer too.

Good point...forgot about that. It's been a while since my car has been in closed loop operation...and I'm kinda glad it isn't
