I'm bummed...

I just got under my car to take a look for some reason, I don't know why exactly, and what do I see? The coating on my pacesetters is peeling off already on the passenger side header :(. On the bottom of it the coating is getting that bubble look to it (like on the edge of an older car where it is rusting) and there is a 1 inch diameter rusty spot... I can't believe that is happening already. I just put them on late last summer and they only have a couple thousand miles on them at all. I didn't drive it through the winter either... I'm just kinda frustrated... lol. How long do i have before that rusty looking stuff goes through and turns into a leak?

Here's a pic I took with my phone earlier.... The engine is towards the top of the picture and the edge there is the edge of the collector. It actually looks kinda black in this picture, but it looked rusty to me...

call pace setter man thats bs the coating shouldnt be peeling but im sure they will tell you it happened because there was a nick in the coating

Speedmonster185 Apr 20, 2007 01:02 AM

Yeah, I sent them an email. We'll see what they say... I sure don't remember any nicks there when i put them on...

They are black underneath its not rust. Sucks but its in a spot where its easy to say something chiped the coating and caused it to peel. There was probably some moisture there when they coated them or they really do peel that quick or the slightest chip is all it takes.

They aren't answering... :(

Thats a coated mild steel header. And there is nothing that can prevent it.

I am sorry to hear about this. Makes me re-think what I am going to do now myself, even tho for the price, you cant expect perfection but the coating should last longer than that....

ONEBADASSWS6 Apr 29, 2007 07:28 PM

Anything you can touch that up with??

Sand it smooth and spray it with Ceramic High Temp paint maybe??

If left like that it will just get worse I'm sure.

This is the second thread I have sseen about ceramic coating coming off.

chrs1313 Apr 30, 2007 09:28 AM

that is why i got stainless...sorry for the bad luck...

Intragration Apr 30, 2007 08:06 PM

That does suck. I agree, you should definitely do something to prevent it from progressing. If you do it right, it shouldn't get any worse. I just used Naval Jelly on some really rusty parts recently, and I was surprised that it took off all the rust and brought it back to shiny metal, you might want to try that to start with.

Speedmonster185 Apr 30, 2007 08:52 PM

I just looked under there again. Only a couple hundred miles more than before, if that. The area has just about doubled that is peeled off... I would really like to spray it with something like ONEBADASSWS6 said. Or do anything to make it stop really.
