FLP headers rusting and pipes touch the car w/ORP

FLP headers rusting and pipes touch the car w/ORP I have the FLP headers to exhaust on my 2000 WS6 and when I put the ORP's on I noticed that the bottom of my headers are rusting. I know that this should not happen w/the coating on them. Also with the ORP's on the car the Y-pipe touches the passenger bucket by the driveshaft WTF....has anyone else experianced this problem? TIA..Michael

Not sure what the "passenger bucket" is but you may have to bend your heat shields a bit to keep them out of the way.

Re: FLP headers rusting and pipes touch the car w/ORP Im not liking these cases of "Rusted FLPs" that keep popping up from time to time. Lowered cars with LTs are just dying for problems im sure. All you have to do is bottom it out enough to scrape the coating off and rust it will. You would think that for 1300 bucks they could have used SS <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />

Re: FLP headers rusting and pipes touch the car w/ORP I agree 100% with ya...my car isn't lowered so the pipes never scrapped, just plain rust...and when I put on the ORP's man was that a PITA, had to take the whole exhaust off to get the damn things to line up. And now the y-pipe is reating on the passenger bucket (where the seat dips down under the car) next to the driveshaft. I did get it to move a little away, but WTF. I think that I will have to give FLP a call and see if they will be kind enough to take a peek at it for me. Thanks again for the replys guys, really do appreciate it.
Re: FLP headers rusting and pipes touch the car w/ORP Hey Ryan, some stainless steels that are used for exhaust setups are low grade stainless and will still form rust. Many grades of stainless, and the good stuff is very hard to mandrel bend for headers. Just FYI

Re: FLP headers rusting and pipes touch the car w/ORP SLPs headers are made from 409 stainless, why they even call that stuff stainless is beyond me. It rusts fast. Cheap aluminized steel wont rust as fast as 409. They need to use 304, but its very hard to bend. As for the FLPs rusting...FLP uses Loko coatings I believe. I have heard nothing but bad things about Loko. Yea, its cheaper from them...as you can tell...They need to use Airborne or Jet-Hot for their coating process. I'd call FLP...I've seen Dan give out a whole new set of headers due to the rusting.

I've had mine on since they came out, in a daily driver, and they've seen ALL kinds of weather. I haven't so much as wiped them down with a cloth, and they look like the day they went on.
Now maybe it's the coating that's superior and saving them from rusting, but I think the point here is that $1200 headers shouldn't rust <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" />

Re: FLP headers rusting and pipes touch the car w/ORP I've had my SLP headers on for 3 years now two of them were in Alaska in the winter. I have a VERY very ever so little rust on them in the place where the pipe come together. Not enough to worry about.
