Default replacing oil pan gasket

I had noticed that I was driping oil from the gasket oil pan meats the bottom of the block and saw that it starts dripping after the second bolt from front the front of the pan to the back. It looks its like the oil pan gskt .Well read a few threads and saw one that said you can do it without using a engine hoise. Any heres the questions that i have

1. will it be ok to hold the engine up by putting a jack stand with a block of wood on the crank pulley? Any down sides to this

2. do i need to unbolt completely the k member, i have a bmr tubuler k member?

by the way im trying to do this w/o taking of the tranny nor removing the engine completely. if you have done this or know a better way please let me know thanks!

I dont know how it is on our engines, but I've been able to actually do oil pan gaskets by just dropping the pan and putting the gasket on that way. It takes some time to get the gasket around but Im not sure there is enough room. Maybe someone has done theirs like this and can tell you.

you can do it with the motor and trans still in the car. Check out the internal engine section, there is a sticky write up on replacing the rod-bolts which requires removing the pan, so just follow those instructions. The write up is done with the motor and trans still in the car.

its fine....many people do it that way. And if it wasn't a good method, the mods wouldnt have made the write-up a sticky

So the gasket is riveted to the pan in 2 spots?

I also have a few areas where it looks like the pan gasket is leaking a little. I put some silicone around the base of one bolt and it stopped leaking there, but there is still some seapage around the gasket area. I was going to drop it down a little and put some silicone around the area it's leaking, but the 2 rear bolts are not isolated from the oil so I had to stop.

The next time I change the oil I'll drop the pan down a little and try the silicone on the leaky area. Can you tell me where the rivets are located?

I'd like to just put a new gasket on, but it seems like it's more trouble than it's worth.

Are all the new gaskets the metal reinforced type? If there is a fleaxible one I might be able to wiggle it down and around the pickup tube.

take the pan out, clean it, clean your pickup tube screen. and put it back on, you should be able to clear with k member in, at least I was able to with my profab unit.
