Damn i'm a newb...

Well I got my SLP lid in today and I am getting ready to attempt to install it on my 01 ss. This is like the first thing i've ever done to a car besides change the oil/check the oil/fill the oil lol. Not that I am ignorant about motors completely, I just don't trust myself.

Any tips about installing the lid? It came with a new rubber gromment, a clamp, and 2 other rubber things that i have no clue what they are for, possibly the IAT sensor.

Also is all I would need is a screwdriver?

Screwdriver and a cold beer is all the tools neccessary.

Yeah, it is very straight forward. Also www.installuniversity.com can help you out. Screwdriver for the clamps is all you will need.

how the hell do u remove those pushpins?

MjMaro May 1, 2007 10:36 AM

For the pushpins you can use the end of a flathead and pushup on them, another thing to do is when ur taking the stock lid and baffle off of the MAF, you might want to heat up the neck of it where it connects to the MAF, that can be a pain in the ass to get off, I got impatient and just cut mine off because I couldn't pull it off.

yea and for tools maybe a hair dryer also lol for the maf.

kyle91z28 May 1, 2007 10:43 AM

so how do I get the IAT sensor out...do I pull out the rubber grommet with it or wtf I don't understand it at all...the SLP lid came with another rubber grommet..

2000WS6TA May 1, 2007 10:54 AM

just pull the IAT stragit out of the gromet and then take the gromet out by itself, the sensor should just slide back through the rubber piece without much trouble.

ap2000z28 May 1, 2007 11:30 AM

the rubber grommet the lid came with is for the side of the lid...+1 for heating the neck up with a hair dryer...I have 2 z28s both with lids, did one just last week, supposidly slp made a new mold and this time it was harder for me to slide it on.

Finished it a lil while ago, figured it out pretty easy...just used the flathead to wedge the MAF out just a bit then I pulled it out fairly easily.

Took the car for a drive and the acceleration felt smoother and it felt like it had a lil more pep to it. Nice investment of 80$ :)

Yeah I was thinking a tr224 cam, because I personally don't want a big lopey cam on the street, but who knows if the tr224 gets boring I probably will end up with like a TSP Magic stick or TREX lol.

Installing the cam yourself? :jest: Just messing with you man. Congrats on the first mod!! :) And yes, a lid is probably the best $80 you can spend on your car.

Sounds like you are ready to tackle a cam now!

Joking! Glad you got it done. Back in 98 this was the 1st mod i ever performed myself also! I suggest going with a SSRA or FTRA next!

+1 on being impatient and cutting

That's where it starts....a lid, then before you know it, you will be swapping everything out! Once the "mod bug" starts, there is no stopping it.
