!EGR Free mod w/problems...

!EGR Free mod w/problems... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Iv'e had the !EGR Free mod for quite some time now, actually about 10-12 months. Recently I just set off a SES light, and noticed something whistling in the engine compartment, low and behold it's the EGR.(Which I believe set off the SES light, I'll verify this tommarow when a friend and I scan it) Well it looks like it wasn't tighten down enough to the manifold, so I figure ok, I'll just torque it down more... BIG MISTAKE, I just read on www.installuniversity.com that if you over torque it pass 89 in-lb, it will strip the brass heli-coil out of the manifold, which I did... For now, since I have to go to school tommarow, and it is late and dark, I just pushed it backed down, threw a couple of washers on top (between the EGR and bolt) and torqued it ever so slightly, The REALLY bad whistling is gone, but you barely hear it, and it is also ticking a little. Any ideas to help me out here? Im really desparate. Also I need the p/n for the gasket that goes between the manifold and the EGR tube. Thanks in advance.

Re: !EGR Free mod w/problems... i did the same thing. i took it out to my dad's work (he's a plane mechanic) and him and the rest of the mechanics told me to get some JB Quik Weld. so i got some and they put some in the hole and put the brass fitting back in. i let it sit for 20 min or so and then tightened it back on. its worked ever since. the brass fitting works by the bolt expanding the outside of it, which expands in the hole. so logically this is a good solution to it.

Re: !EGR Free mod w/problems... Thanks LS1BlackZ28, So far I have "yet" have to go through the JB Quick Weld trick yet. Right now everything is holding fine, even my SES light went off after fixing it and driving a couple of miles. Although, since now I have about 5 washers on the bolt it looks a bit goofy. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" />

Re: !EGR Free mod w/problems... It won't last long. I played with a stripped brass piece for 4 wks. on and off before doing the jbweld. Now all is well; perfect again. Not sure how/why it comes loose, but this is the second time since doing the original !EGR mod 3 yrs. ago I've had to f# with it.
