Two 4 inch flexable pipes - ram air mod? Anyone remember the post where a guy took two 4 inch Home Depo heating ducts and modded the air box to force air into the engine? The mod sealed the box too! I sure would like to consider that mod now...it was VERY effective (1/4 miles times way down) and was cheap too! |
Re: Two 4 inch flexable pipes - ram air mod? it was mike hofpair(sp) I'd like to do it too but you either have to remove the front bumper or cut some holes in it. I don't think ram air could get any better though. |
Re: Two 4 inch flexable pipes - ram air mod? The grill in the Camaro allows you to do that, whereas on a Firebird we don't have that option. I remember someone cut out the bumber and support behind the front license plate on a T/A to make it into a ram air deal like the dryer ducting too. I just made two bigger fast toys/supper sucker style intakes since I didn't want to cut the bumber or support. http://slickninja.com/posse/elemak/f...mAirSetup2.jpg |
Re: Two 4 inch flexable pipes - ram air mod? It was cool - I attempted it myself and gave up. You have to remove the front clip. Cut large holes in the bumper support and the radiator support. Remove or modify the washer tank. Remove all the plastic shields in front of condenser/radiator. I wasn't willing to make that large cuts in crucial front supports like that, so I went back to FTRA. Dope |
Re: Two 4 inch flexable pipes - ram air mod? I took 2 2" heater pipes and cut a hole in my styraphome blocks in the grill on my camaro, ran them up to the air box and pointed them inside the opening, I did notice a difference at first, it seemed like it had better and quicker response |
any more responces on this i want to do this!! |
The FTRA type is hard to beat, as far as fabbing up and installing. Cutting out the bumper support on a Camaro on both sides and running the flex tubing to the front of the airbox is definitely doable, as y'all pointed out. I've never seen one sealed to the inlet this way, but with some sheet metal fab work you could make it really trick, I'm thinking. Hmmm. |
in the camaros, all you have to do is run them to the grill right? |
yes, search fof sux2bu he did it, i did it and gained.2 and 1.5mph in the 1/8 |
I've been meaning to make some more "ram air" plates. i doubt theres any other ram air set up that comes close to the ones set up like the dual 4" hole set ups. The only down side it requires some cutting. https://ls1tech.com/forums/drag-racing-tech/402086-how-do-you-have-your-ram-air-system-set-up-your-drag-car.html https://ls1tech.com/forums/removed-locked-thread-graveyard/192084-new-ram-air-setup-camaros.html |
all i have to say is woooooooow! |
