Anyone know the sound of SLP Dual/Dual with headers?
That's my new setup along with an offroad Y, but it's a lot louder and unrefined than I had hoped for.
I wonder if anyone has clips so I can tell if it's an exhaust leak or a bad QTEC causing such an uncivilized sound. The SLP dual/dual is so quiet in stock form, that I'm surprised the car sounds so dramatically unrefined now.

I have an 02 Hawk also with SLP long tubes and cats and the dual dual sounds great. Quit down low but over 3,500 rpm she rumbles nice and deep. People always ask if it is borla.. Doesnt become a headach when u are just trying to cruise with a girl.. Good luck,,

Mine sounds a little rougher than with the stock manifolds but not as bad as your describing. Mine is deeper and rumblier at idle but still very civilized. It has a tiny bit of rasp around 2500 rpms but thats about it. At WOT it screams and sounds awesome. I had a friend do a full throttle run while I was standing by the road and it was freakin louder than I expected! I wish I knew how to make a soundclip as I would gladly make one for ya.

Thanks guys. Here's an mp3 clip. The revs just don't sound quite right to me.
To clarify, I have no cats.

Mine sounds very close but seems to be a little smoother and milder, maybe the higher LSA of the LS6 cam or maybe the CME tips play a role in smoothing the exhaust note out somewhat? Also it's just the nature of the beast with an ORYP that it will be a little unrefined.

Good to know. But like I alluded to, I was just surprised how radical the change was considering the dual/dual is so notoriously quiet.

man, that thing isnt loud. You have long tubes on an american v8 it should be loud. Loud is my car with an open y-pipe all the time...Now, when i get headers and a cam, i will install a dual/dual but with 2 electric cutouts. Your setup sounds
good id keep it.

1st, I found my QTEC was leaking. I had to close it nearly 20 times before it actually closed. The sound is much cleaner now.
My wife drove the car in autocross while I worked the corner. For whatever reason, the car doesn't sound too spetacular from the inside to me, but I love the sound from the outside.

I am doing a TR 224/114, Jet hot Headers/ORY.
I have a LM on it now, and am taking my OEM D/D to the install place. I think it will sound good. the LM will just be obnoxious. Glad i saved my OEM D/D

I have the SLP Dual/Dual on my Formula. Here's my setup:
427 MTI Motor
R1 Cam (pretty tame)
No cats
Custom Y-Pipe
1 3/4" to 1 7/8" stepped Dynatechs
Here's the sound:
SLP Dual/Dual
There is no resonance, drone or rasp. It's very quiet. I'm installing my Corsa Exhaust here next week. My SLP Dual/Dual is for sale for $200 + shipping.

Re: Anyone know the sound of SLP Dual/Dual with headers?
I just finished installing my QTP LT's and building a custom Y-pipe out of 3-1/2 inch oval stainless tubing (ground clearance w/ Eibach's). I have the SLP Dual/Dual and it was always quiet with JBA's and no cats. It is not quiet anymore!! I'm still adjusting to the sound. Might be a little loud for my tastes as I prefer stealthiness. After all the time spent on it today though, there is now way I'm going back under it to put a bullett muffler in. LOL!!

Re: Anyone know the sound of SLP Dual/Dual with headers?
I've got all the parts to my D/D--had the wife check for me...so that is the way I'm going to go. I had to do some tearing to get it apart. SLP clamped that bastard down tight. I'm taking some wide clamps and will repair the tears best i can prior to install. It will then have to be welded up at a shop, but i believe it will work.
should be a good "noise" but not obnoxious. cam/headers/!cats/ORY with LM will just be too loud, raspy.

I'm buying the jet hot catted Y when it comes out. I may just save it for emission testing though. a bullet in the I pipe is something i considered, even to the point of keeping my LM I pipe in place...which i may yet do.

Re: Anyone know the sound of SLP Dual/Dual with headers?
FWIW my .02 on this...
See sig for details but my car has Hooker LT's, Mufflex Y, & SLP D/D. The D/D is louder with the LT's than it was before but it's still pretty tame. The LT's give more muscle car sound than before. Still w/o cats it's pretty quiet for what it is. Cops ignore the car it's that quiet. One friend familar with the car mentioned it was louder. Loudness is about even with a Corsa at idle and low rpm.
Another friend that's done a lot of heads and cam installs said the SLP D/D quieted the H & C, LT's w/o cat pretty well. He wasn't crazy about the sound quality with the D/D and suggested a Borla or Corsa w/cats would sound better. Based on the cars I've heard, I agree with him because my car doesn't sound as refined or sophisticated as the typical LS1 w/Borla or Corsa. However, I couldn't careless about my cars sound quailty as long as the car is Quiet.
