Kook's Y-Pipe Clearance

I was curious to see what kind of clearances you all have that on a Kooks off-road Y. I was suprised to only have 3 3/8" of clearance on the drivers side. That is the height of the orange container in the pic. The height of the soda can is 4 7/8". Does anyone know if this can be improved any or is 3 3/8" as good as it's going to be??

Maybe this picture will be better to view.

Now you can see why we flatten the top of the Y a little.

My Kooks Y was flattened through the bend and had great ground clearance. The cutouts I added hurt that a little though.

It looks like you have not adjusted it up far enough, since you have close to an inch above the pipe to the frame. You should be able to pick up at least another 1/2" if not 3/4" with some adjustments. You can also tweak the hanger off the transmission on the other side to raise the whole Y pipe.

Good luck with it.

It looks like you have it pushed too far forward onto the header and it's not clearing the trans crossmember. It should be a little farther back, then you can tuck it up another 3/4-1" possibly. But yeah, the flat spot will give better clearance in some cases. You really won't get too much ground clearance with a 3" pipe on the driver's side.

loosen the header bolts and push the collector up and closer to the floorboard.

Yeah I had a shopinstall my kooks set up. First I actually had the Y hitting my flor board at idelsometimes. Clearance was great. I fixed the hitting with some polly motor mounts. No everyhings great. I really never scape on my lowered car.

That is lower than mine by 1"..and my car is lowered.

If you have poly motor mounts, there is no reason that the ypipe shouldn't be between 1/2 and 3/4" from the floor board. I'd look at how it's adjust and raise it another 1/2 to 3/4" closer to the floor board.
