installing Pacesetter LT's this weekend.

I went and bought a 10mm flex gear wrench, percy's gaskets and some ngk tr6 plugs. Next i think i need to get a jack to lift the car high enough. What else do you'll recommend i should do before and after installing?

02silvaZ Feb 26, 2008 07:39 PM

case of beer and some band-aid's

boola1341 Feb 26, 2008 07:47 PM

it's that bad? This will be my first header install.

bigti99a Feb 26, 2008 07:48 PM

just curious why you went to the tr6's instead of another set of 55's? i thought the tr6 was more of a n20 pug? dont forget your poly motor mounts while you have the room.

02silvaZ Feb 26, 2008 07:49 PM

nah, you'll scratch a couple of knuckles but you'll need a beer to celebrate how bad ass that thing sounds when you crank it up on open headers

boola1341 Feb 26, 2008 07:56 PM

reason i bought the tr6 plugs, i was planning on installing nitrous next month. Currently i have the tr55 installed. Should i keep the tr55 or replace now with the tr6??

GregWS6&z28 Feb 26, 2008 08:08 PM

do TR6's while you are at it. wont hurt ya NA before you spray it.

Return those percy's gaskets and get some GM gaskets.... I had two sets of them blow out on me, and have since switched back to the GM stuff. No problems since. Sometimes cheap does = reliable.

Hey GregWS6&z28 is there a tune shop in richmond that you would recommend. All i have for a tune now is the predator.

Even the percy's xx carbon gaskets. There said to withstand 2000*F

Correction:
Three 30 packs or beer, and 5 boxes of waterproof band-aids.

Just did a header install and my hands are killing, i carely can take notes in class and type this message.

From my experience, Pacesetters are the EASIEST to install. Get the car up high enough, cut the casting tab off the driver side of the block, and the headers pretty much just fall in.

lastcall190 Feb 26, 2008 08:36 PM

:rotflmao: You'll live. The worst things in the world are those fucking daggers coming down off of the cowl. I 2nd the suggestion for the celebratory beer.

EDIT: Agreed, I could've just as soon thrown my pacesetters on my motor, slammed the hood, and they'd be ready to go. After the tab was off, they went right in.

ryarbrough Feb 26, 2008 08:38 PM

yeah, I had one set of aluminum ones, and one of the carbon sets, they both sucked... Even when tightening them to specs they seem to expand and contract allowing a slowly growing leak which will eventually blow through. Greg can probably vouch for that.... I believe he heard my car when it finally blew out at one of our meetings.

It only took me about 40 minutes to do mine once I got the stock manifolds out, on the lift at 9am and driving home at 11. I don't know why people make such a huge fuss over it, but I'm guessing it doesn't usually go so smoothly. The only thing I had to do was take off the oil filter and that thing above it where you can tap a line into, and the steering knuckle for the drivers side.

transam69230 Feb 26, 2008 08:48 PM

You might have to take the oil dipstick off as well, i can't remember if i had to or not with LTs. Its not bad at all, if you cant get them in and are frustrated take a break and try again they do fit in there. You might even have to push the tranny over just a bit to get them, i believe thats on the passenger side.

02silvaZ Feb 26, 2008 08:51 PM

dont forget to drain and remove the flux capacitor!!!!!

jetlag Feb 26, 2008 08:53 PM

You could have saved a little bit of money and reused your stock gaskets ;)

Yes, the oil dipstick has to be removed...but..lmao the transmission does NOT have to be moved..
