1 3/4 vs. 1 7/8 kooks headers
i have finally decided on getting kooks headers for my SS, but have noticed that both the 1 and 3/4 and 1 and 7/8 headers are the same price...
somebody told me that by going w/ the bigger headers i would be losin upwards of 7-10 horsepower on a stock motor... i dont really understand why...
bigger displacement or nitrous or forced induction may be in my future, and i would like to only do this header install once, so i would really like the 1 7/8 headers...
is what he is saying true about the horsepower loss on a relatively stock motor?? i know we want "some" backpressure but would it actually hurt to have bigger headers??
thanks in advance for any feedback, i would really like to order these by the end of the week and this is the only thing stopping me...

Yes unless you have more cubes or more air flow than stick with 1 3/4" You won`t see any gain with bigger tubes, no back pressure. You will have them out again if you plan on more cubes anyway. Let us know if you have anymore questions or if we can help on the header order.

Re: 1 3/4 vs. 1 7/8 kooks headers
I gained 20hp from my 1-7/8 headers on the STOCK motor...
Get what you want. Some people only speak what they hear. I was soo happy to prove EVERYONE wrong when the first set of 1-7/8 LT's was produced by grottyohan.
I also gained TQ through the ENTIRE powerband...

Re: 1 3/4 vs. 1 7/8 kooks headers
im not really worried about "not making use" of the 1 7/8 since they are the same price... i think im just going to go ahead and get them... i like to do things once and for all, and even if im losing 5-7 horsepower for now that is ok w/ me provided that once the heads/cam goes in I will reap the benefits...
thanks for all the feedback fellas...

Was that 20 hp gain over the 1 3/4 grotts??
What would you guys say about the gains from a 1 7/8 on a big cam car, like the G5X2? And Heads? Still keeping the shortblock stock though.

Re: 1 3/4 vs. 1 7/8 kooks headers
I just talked to the boys at East Side, they assured me that no top end would be lost, but some low end torque would be lost (which i expected)...
so i think im just gonna go w/ the 1 7/8 coated stepped headers....
i cant wait to hear those headers w/ high flow cats and magnaflow at WOT!!!

Re: 1 3/4 vs. 1 7/8 kooks headers
FYI..
I believe that Kooks is a FULL 1 7/8 header not a 1 3/4 stepped up to 1 7/8 like others.
