LS6 Camaro's come inside

first off if i am in the wrong forum, i apologize and please move it

I am recently putting a LS6 engine in my 2001 camaro ss and seem to be having difficulty solving two problems...

first, for your LS6 camaro owners, what did ya'll do with the stock LS6 headers to clear the sub-frame? it looks like there is not room to bolt up my existing exhaust on the passenger side of the motor. Did ya'll buy aftermarket headers or did you custom fab. an angled pipe to get clearence from the sub-frame?

secondly, if your motor came with a LS6 clutch, what did you do to get the T56 to bolt up? it seems like the LS6 flywheel is too thick causing the tranny to not bolt up to the motor. Did you just put your existing ls1 clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel on the new LS6?

sorry for all the questions...im just stumped right now, its been a long day

The 01-02 V-8 F-bodies all came with the LS6 clutch, but they still used the LS1 flywheel and pressure plate.

As far as the manifolds go, I would just get aftermarket headers. Shorties are kinda pointless unless you want to remain stockish, but Mids or better yet, Longtubes are your best bet for power. The manifolds on the vettes are different than the f-bodies. If you have a true LS6 motor, your going to be dealing with the vette or CTS-V manifolds... which may be causing clearance problems.

I put an LS6 flywheel and clutch into our 02, without a single problem.

Throw some pacesetters on there, and forget about all the manifold issues.

I used the ls7 setup on the clutch and longtubes

I did the same thing.

When I did my swap this past winter I used my factory clutch (LS6) because of money constraints. everything bolted up fine but when installing the T56 with the engine already in the car it was a bitch. I put it on in two pieces: the bellhousing then the trans and it worked pretty well.

I'd get longtubes instead of manifolds, gonna hold those 243's back.

Good luck

I put the LS6 in my 1998 Camaro SS, I used my FLP headers that I already had and as far as clutches go that LS6 and LS7 clutches might be good but I have multi run my car back to back to back and my Spec clutch has never felled me and I wouldnt trade it for no other clutch with there steel flywheel and used all of my stock sensors and intake ect.
