which lid doesn't rub?

Okay i've heard of this problem a lot and i'm tryin to buy a lid. My buddy also showed me a spot on his ss hood where it was down to the fiberglass because of rubbing. I've also read this is a major problem with the slp lid and after about two hours of reading threads. Ive only read good things about the whisper lid....
i also want one with no leaks. Basically a lid with no problems that come with it.

umm. my mti lid looks brand new and doesnt make any marks on my hood, no leaks and works great. idk about any other brands

When I had my ss I had the same problem I had a whisper air lid then I swap it out for a blackwing like the firehawk comes with and I'm still uising one today.

hmm so the whisper lid rubbed too? dammit it seems like almost the luck of the draw when it comes to whether or not it'll rub

MikeLSS1 Jul 6, 2008 09:23 PM

okay i guess i'll just buy the lid i like and hope for the best. any good remedy's to fix this issue? i was thinkin just put like some felt on the top part of the lid where it would touch the hood... i just don't wanna mess up my precious hood lol

PowerShift408 Jul 6, 2008 09:32 PM

Had an SLP and it rubbed on my Raptor hood. Got a Fast Toys lid now and no problems whatsoever.

word those things are expensive tho man...

I'm not sure a lot of the blame should go toward the lids, but more so the bellows. If you have anything other than the stock bellows, I suggest you take a look and see if it is causing any flexing of the lid or even the tabs actually popping out and causing a rub.

MikeLSS1 Jul 6, 2008 09:44 PM

m'kay, i was just gonna stick with the stock bellow anyway i read that the smooth bellow doesn't do all that much, does anyone beg to differ?

TXZ28LS1 Jul 6, 2008 09:44 PM

very happy with my SLP lid.

MaroMan Jul 6, 2008 09:55 PM

Stock bellow with SLP and rubs the fuck out of my SS hood

firehawk#682 Jul 6, 2008 10:26 PM

SLP and fits great no leaks no rubbing ever since ive put it on!

zracer323 Jul 6, 2008 10:36 PM

Another SLP with no problems here.

Just remember, a lid is a lid is a lid. Just get the one you like and if you install it right it shouldn't rub.

ZMONSTER! Jul 6, 2008 10:42 PM

As far as the bellows go I basically got the SLP smooth bellows for free with my lid and again its good to go

JScamaro Jul 6, 2008 10:43 PM

I have the newer SLP lid with a SS hood and zero problems.
