Can't get to that last spark plug wire???

Passenger side spark plug wire on the last cylinder by the fire wall. This sucker is completly covered by everything on top of the head.

How is everyone changing this spark plug wire? I cannot see any way to get my hand or any tool in there to change it out.

Thanks for any guidance!

From the bottom of the car.

i don't have a problem going in from the side of the motor along the primaries on the longtubes. I am also a little guy taken into account though with my AC removed which helps out quite a bit. Just remove the AC, lol. +1 Going from the bottom if you can't get it from above.

I was able to get at it from the top. But the #8 & #6 coil packs were removed. It was a TIGHT fit, and I'm a small guy.

Bottom of the car

i am a bigger guy who still has stock manifolds, cats, etc. i was able to get it from the top with both coil packs removed and still cut my wrists up....i do that everytime i think about a plug change on a stock manifold car. cant wait for long tubes.

slt200mph Jul 17, 2008 03:46 PM

Get it from the bottom

JBIRD02 Jul 17, 2008 04:02 PM

+ 1 on removing the coil pack brackets. I get mine from the top this way w/ no problems. Also, disconnect the a.i.r. tube on the stock manifold/header if you havent already. Should make it a lot easier.

redemn93 Jul 17, 2008 04:06 PM

did that. i still barely fit. my stock y-pipe and cats wont let me reach it from underneath.

theguyulove2hate Jul 17, 2008 04:24 PM

i pulled all of my buddys a/c hoses out when i did his. but we were also doing the headers, and i have hands the size of boxing gloves

jsteele90 Jul 17, 2008 04:44 PM

just take the coil pack off and you will have much more room. the whole bracket and everything.

King Nothing Jul 17, 2008 04:59 PM

with my lt's it takes less than 40 mintues to change all my plugs and wires, number 8 is actually very easy now and you shouldn't need to take off the coil packs, do you still have your EGR and AIR lines hooked up?

You need more tools or to choose the correct tools to do the job .. get a 3/8 inch flex head ratchet with 1 inch extention and a 3 inch extention to use depending on which plug you are changing for numbers 1-7 .. use a 1/4 inch drive ratchet with a 3/8 inch adapter and a spark plug socket for number 8...I change plugs in 25 minutes 1-7 from the top and # 8 from the bottom and change them every 12K-15K miles which is twice a year for me .. :D

PS I have none of that emission BS to work around..take all of it off and throw it away .. it is dead weight

The AIR tube was removed but that was never really in the way anyways. I guess its the ac tubes that are blocking everything, and the coil packs sit high on the valve covers. The heads don't help any since they sit higher than stock ones.

so everyone is saying you can reach these wires, even to the coil pack from below??? I don't think my arms are long enough for that, lol!

BayAreaSS Jul 17, 2008 06:17 PM

Just do it from under the bottom its real easy that way.

EndlessSummer85 Jul 17, 2008 06:43 PM

Drive the car up on ramps, get it from below...

VERY sterile engine compartment... Looks great!

Who's valve covers do you have? They are the only ones I have seen that don't look taco....

Thanks!
