Installing TSP's 1 7/8" Headers Im going to be ordering TSP's 1 7/8" Headers here in about a week. There going to be installed on a 98 z28 camaro A4 (All Free mods, Lid, Smooth Bellows, TB bypass, Ported and polished TB) Along with the headers i planned on ordering GM gaskets, 02 Extenstions (do i need one or two?), MSD 8.5mm SC wire set, NGK tr55 plugs. Also what else should i do well im doing the headers (cant be to expensive)? if i wanted to remove the EGR, and AIR stuff will i need anything ? |
Put some hi temp anti seize on your header bolts and spark plug threads. You'll need 2 o2extentions If you remove the air and egr you'll need a block off plate for the intake manifold egr hole... Or you could buy a ls6 intake.:devil: Also and its mainly for looks, You could get stage 8 locking bolts or stuts for the headers. |

sounds like your on the right track. i hanestly dont think you need that big of a primary header 1 3/8ths should be pleanty for a stockish car. that big of a header is for biger ci motors. |

Well i looked at the dyno results on a fairly stock ls1 (posted by TSP here on ls1 tech) and the 1 7/8" headers gained HP and TQ by a fairly respectably amount over the pacesetter 1 3/4". Plus i dont plan on leaving the car stock... Im doing a fast intake setup this winter, and a MS4 or a cam like it along with a set of heads and mybe a 100 shot down the road. I just figured might as well do it right the first time. |

Best time to do motor mounts is when your adding headers. |
post a clip when you are done, and some dyno results for sure! and track times, duh! |
^ I agree might as well do them they aren't that expensive, and its alot easier to do them now with the headers off then later with them on. Its just a better chance of your y-pipe not banging. I did them and it wasn't to bad and no issues with y-pipe of the headers fitting as all. I would also get rid of the air and egr systems. It looks tons better and it frees up space in the engine bay. |
The 1 7/8" headers are NOT a bad idea for even a mainly stock engine. Our dyno testing showed that the 1 7/8" headers were almost identical to the 1 3/4" headers until 4500+ RPM where the larger 1 7/8" headers started to make more power and carried it out better than the 1 3/4" header. With the addition of future mods such as heads/cam the larger headers will only benefit you more down the road! Let me know if you have any other questions! Thanks! Jon |
