Cleaning block Q's Hey Everyone. Got my new LS1 block, and im super excited to get working on it! Just wanted to ask, i called the local machine shop, to get a quote on a hot tank and i was told if they hot tank the block it will dissolve so they would need to jetwash it. Has anyone else heard of this? Is it just pressure washing? If so, couldnt i do that myself? Also, is it a good idea to go through with a dremel and remove casting flash? Thanks! Sheldon |
Yes, When a block is hot tanked they use Sodium Hydroxide, along with other detergents and rust inhibitors. At the engine shop I work at someone put a caddy 4.1 block in the hot tank, and after 5 minutes, he took it out and dried it. I went to install the cam bearings and i pushed them through with my fingers. That should tell u just how corrosive this shit actually is. And use a file and a hand de-burrer to remove casting flash. good luck |
Thanks! Does this mean that for cleaning it, i could just soap the block up then pressure wash everything off of it? Thanks! Sheldon |
Have it Jet Washed! Better in my opinion. |
