Don't flame... newb with another 5.3L ??? First post!!! ok party over... Can an aluminum 5.3L be bored to 3.908" I read in one of my LS1/LS6 books that the aluminum 5.3L is the exact same as a LS6 except that they have a thicker sleeve. With this in mind 3.908" shouldn't be a problem. I've searched on here and have read a few people think 3.905" is the max. Does anyone know for sure? I measured the sleeves at .200" thick. After boring out to 3.908" (.129" over)the sleeves would be .1355" thick. I'm only considering this because I already had a complete forged rotating assembly with 4" crank, 6.125" rods and 3.908" pistons in the garage. A freind practically gave me the new block. So now I have that sitting in the garge too. I'd like to get something done with it this winter. Sorry for the long post and probably a repeat question. Any help would be appreciated. |
No one??? |
you can bore it out to a 5.7L if the pistons from a 5.7 are 3.908, then yes. I can't remember off the top of my head what a ls1 piston is, and im to lazy to search. |
Many go to a 3.905" bore with their 5.3L blocks. That's among the most common bore size for pistons that are readily available anyway. What's an extra .003" between friends? :) |
Thanks, guys. I think I'm going sell it and head a different direction. |
