Default HELP! car running like absolute crap, making funny noises.

OK guys, here we go. I drove my car a few days ago and it ran awesome. better than ever. Then yesterday it got cold and we got some rain. After the rain i went to drive my car again. take it out and it feels like its misfiring, or just down on power. Sometimes it will all of a sudden run great for a second and then go right back to ****. Its nearly impossible to get it over 2500 in 3rd gear. So, i decided to head straight home. Upon parking i noticed a noise, and i have no idea what it could be. Its a short kind of hissing, almost like an air compressor. Like PSH...few second...PSH...and so on. Does anyone have any ideas? Im hoping for something simple, and i think it could be a sensor, since it will run great for very short bursts. Thanks in advance gents. I look forward to any responses

sounds like a major vacumn leak to me.

check to make sure the hose is connected at the brake booster, and check the small rubber elbow on the passenger side of the TB...actually connects to the manifold just behind the TB, along the bottom, runs back along the passenger valve cover and to the back of the engine.

could be a major exhaust leak as well.

hmm would a major exhaust leak cause running that bad? I realize it would be bad, but it feels like a pinto. Thank you for the input teke, i will check both of those as soon as it gets better out. anyone else?

That would be a air/vacuum leak, not an exhaust leak. And yes, if a large enough amount of unmetered air (doesn't pass through the MAF) gets into the intake manifold, it can run very poorly.

P.S. Any codes present?

Just found out about the problem last night, but there is an SES light, so i have to get it scanned somewhere. I did just go out and look at the Lines off the TB and such. they look good. no cracks or breaks. The one from underneath the TB to the pass side head does not have clamps on the end though, and it is fairly easy to just pull off.

Is it a flashing SES light? or a steady one?

If it does it then stops it may be the vacuum line coming off the Evap solenoid. It will only leak when the PCM commands the solenoid open.

ok heres the update. drove her around the block and i got back popped the hood, And i see water trickling down the pass. side head where it mates to the block. Starting to think a vaccuum leak sounds better and better by the minute.

I had a problem with my O2s getting wet and it would read crazy voltages. Good luck bro.

With that hissing noise it must be a vacuum leak some where.

looked like the hissing was water from the heads dripping on the hot headers. This sucks

Blown head gasket will make the car run like **** too. What color is the exhaust smoke? Oil and water look normal?

SRJ, no colored smoke at all. I stood back there and put my hand on the fumes, clean. I think it (the head) could just be warped.

I've got some 853's in my garage right now that have new stock springs that I'll let go for $75. And just in case you're wondering if they are the same as your 241's, yes they are...they are identical castings with a different finishing process, power output/cfm differences are negligible.
