Help me hit 400 wheel cam recommendations?
Ok so I知 new to the ls1 scene (coming from turbo 4 bangers) but I have been creeping around this site and learning a ton. I am swapping an ls1 from an 04 gto into my 240sx and would like to hit 400 wheel on the initial install. The car is a 2800 pound auto-x/lapping day car that sees very little street use. With the install it will be getting long tube headers and an exhaust and also a good tune. It will also get a fidanza AL flywheel and probably a spec stage 3 clutch. Also the current rear end gearing is 3.91 if that matters.
My question is what other mods will be required to meet my goal? I知 sure a cam and maybe heads. Any recommendation on either of those would be great. I知 not limiting my self to 400 wheel that is just the initial goal. Thanks

any of the low 23x cams should get you there with stock heads.
if you want something with a little smoother idle and possibly more low end, i would say go for a smaller cam and some small runner heads.
something like the TR 228 cam with a set of milled AFR 205s would probably get you about 430rwhp (fbody drivetrain) and great low end power.
cam only i would say go for something like the TSP torquer 2, or the FMS F14

stock 241s with Comp 918s, Comp 228/230, pacesetter LTs, LS6 intake, and ported TB got me 434 wheel hp before the tune. and it was my daily driver. 400 hp is easy with a stock longblock LS1. you shouldn't have any problems. if you go HCI with LTs and a good tune 450+ will be VERY easy.

What "teke" said. I had a 224 cam in my last setup and made just under 400rwhp. A 23x duration and 59x lift will get you to the 400hp mark, and throw a set of heads in there... you'll have your goal for sure. 2,800 # car and 400+ at the wheels will be fun.

Ok so you guys have given me a lot of cam suggestions that I will look into. It will still be difficult to come to a final decision on that though. I don’t think I can come up with the money for some really nice heads just yet so would a set of stock ls6 heads be a good option? With some better valve springs of course. My main concern is good low end and a nice usable power band.

stock ls6 heads are a nice upgrade, but for the expense of the swap...you'd be better off spending a little $$ and getting them touched up.
figure stock the heads will give you about 15-20hp over stock ls1 heads...depending on the cam

yeah there's always that guy that chimes in with 400-410rwhp on a 224 cam only, through an auto with a 12bolt....while the rest of the world has a hard time hitting 410rwhp with a 230 cam, an m6 and a 10bolt
