Haven't read through everything here, but copper spray on Cometics is a good thing. Search, & you will find more "new" cometics that leak coolant after an un-sprayed install than will be found that don't leak. I was fooled once by the "no need to spray Cometics", thing & had leaking head gaskets; never again for me.

I sprayed the cometics I just put on. For the same reason ls1-450 said. Plus it's a little added insurance. Definitly won't hurt to spray the gaskets.

I sprayed a light coat of Hylomar on my Cometics. I also spoke to Cometic prior to doing so and they told me it was OK to do so. They said it would help fill minor imperfections even though I checked the heads and block with a machinist straight edge and a Profilimeter.

OUCH. I hate that for you on the Duramax--they are not fun. I've never had to do head gaskets on one, but I can tell you that they are NOT fun to work on. Do yoursef a favor and buy up as many variants of a 5mm allen socket that you can find. I agree that copper coat won't hurt anything, and I've never used a Cometic, but I've NEVER seen a GM mls gasket leak anything under normal operating. Do it, if it makes you feel better.

I've got the GM sealent too. It dont think it will be too bad to do, just time consuming.
