Default Does my stock oil pump fit my new (TSP) LS2 crank gear?

Hi guys I just bought a LS2 timing set for my LS1. Im putting it back together and Im having trouble getting the pump back on the gear. Im trying to be delicate because I dont wanna break anything. Is there only one way it goes or am I just being a sissy?

Make sure the gear is seated all the way. The gear is that set is the same part number as came on your car from the factory, just new.

So the ls2 timing chain is the exact same as the ls1 part# wise, but physically a heavier-duty chain, correct? Shouldn't gm change the last digit in the part# or something when they redesign it?

The bottom gear is the same, the top gear is different, and the chain is a bit beefier (although if you order a chain for an LS1, the old part number supersedes to the LS2 chain number).

That make sense?

Sometimes you must remove some of the metal on the timing cover to make it fit. Specially if it is a double chain and a high volume oil pump.. use some grease on the oil pump bolts, to see if they hit the cover when you mount it back. Yes it Will fit.

ok I see now. I was thinking of a part# as an entire set that gm would sell to you, chain and gears. Good to know for future reference.
