Default Dart 225 heads.. few questions

my brother has recently got himself a set of the Dart 225 heads, bottom end is a standard 346.

1.What heads gaskets should he run, is it the l76, l98 or ls3 head gaskets he should get ?

2.his tuning for e85 and will also be run on pulp when availability of e85 is out of reach. so milling the heads is what were thinking to maximise the potential of e85, but at the same time being suitable for pulp fuel aswell. a happy medium in other words. how much should he mill the heads ?

From someone that has run dart 205 and 225 both ported and as cast, I would tell you to keep alittle gasket thickness to help chamber to cylinder bore transition. I would also say that you benefit more with these heads than most any other by putting a slight (~.080ish) taper on the cylinder sleeve to accomdate the oversized chamber and valve to valve throat ratio. Again, practical experience, not internet bullshit.

I used Cosmetic .040 gaskets on my Dart 205's. I did not put a taper on the cyl. This is the first time I heard about that. It does make sense.

I wished we had E85 around here.

Good luck. I really like my ported Darts.

I don't they are great as cast but from what I have seen they are killer and have meat in the all right for a good porter. If $$$ was no object I would go T4P Darts. They flow nearly 350cfm at .650 so they are as bad$$ as it gets if you want an all out cathedral port setup.

Dart 225's here and they work great. I don't know why they got such a bad rap here.

There are some head porters who will use nothing but Darts. The bad press they received a few years ago due to some over porting basically killed them on this forum, yet there are some making killer power with them. The aluminum used for the casting is better as well.

The chambers are 3.970" across, so you need a head gasket larger than this. Dart recommends the 6.0L GM MLS or Fel Pro 1161. This subject has been discuss many times, a search would yield a ton of information.

im down to 2 head gaskets from cometic, a 3.980" bore or 4.030" bore. im thinking the 3.980" bore or is this cutting it slightly close or should i go the 4.030" bore.

Cheers
