Curious... Hotcam on different LSA's

Many moons ago I had a hotcam in my Camaro. I got the urge to go bigger so I swapped for a 228/228. Then I got the urge to go smaller and ended up with what I have now. Out of the 4 cams I have had in the car I can honestly say that the hotcam was the best street cam. It had the best midrange. I did not run as fast at the track with the hotcam but it seemed to have the most power in the low to mid range. It was an impressive cam for the amount of lift that it has IMHO. I am not planning to swap cams but what would happen if you had a hotcam with a wider LSA? The GMPP hotcam is on a 112.

What would happen if you had the same duration and lift as the hotcam but had it on a 114 LSA, what about a 116 LSA? I think I know what will happen but I want to know what everyone else thinks.

Smoother idle?

I think the 116lsa would kill the midrange torque. what did you shift that cam at?

prob put the power band higher? not sure.

I shifted around 6400 most times

do you have any track times with the hotcam?

Has anyone ever calculated the DCR with the hotcam in a stock ls1? I have a feeling its higher than other cams and thats why it makes such good lowend torque (advancing the cam, decreasing lsa increases DCR when duration is unchanged). Plus the intake duration is only 218.

The ls6 cam has 116 lsa and makes all its power up top without any increase in midrange. So I imagine increasing the lsa of the hotcam would have similar results.

Just go the new Comp LSr version of the Hotcam - 219/227 112LSA still but on LSL lobes with over .600 lift :D

The cam I am inquiring about would be going in my truck. I am looking for a low end torque monster.

The best I ran with the hotcam was 11.55-11.60 I think. It is not as bad as everyone makes it sound. For a low lift cam it will run.

how is your current cam in comparison to the hotcam?

PowerTalk Feb 13, 2009 06:54 AM

Take your pick then :D

LSr cathedral port cams (small displacement or max torque 4.8-5.3)
54-455-11 215/223 .604/.610 112LSA
54-456-11 219/227 .607/.614 112LSA
54-457-11 223/231 .610/.617 112LSA
54-458-11 227/235 .614/.621 113LSA
