317's and cam stock ls1

My plans are to go turbo in about 6 months. I want to go ahead and put something like a 224/224 cam in and while i am there i figured might as well put the 317 heads on and change the lifters and trays and so on. How will my car perform after those mods until i get the turbo kit on? I have pacesetter lts, 3600 converter, and ls6 intake. Will the 3600 converter keep me out of the low end loss from the lower compression?

Anyone?

I built my forged moter with -4cc dished pistons and 317 heads with cam in sig. My compression is around 9.4-1. Drove it for a few weeks before the blower cam in, It was a little sluggish but not to bad.

i know, diggin, but did you go aheah and put the 317 heads on a 224 cammed ls1 before boost?

I'm actually wondering the same thing..

Wan't to know if ported and unmilled 317s will be decent N/A while I wait a couple years before the blower goes on.

ive been trying to get somewhat of a straight answer on this but havnt got it yet.
but heres an interesting thing i found on the CR calculator.
317 heads on 5.7L with .040 cometics gaskets has the CR at 9.9:1 to nearly 10:1 CR depending on gasket bore diameter. I used 4.010 to get it to 9.9:1 CR.

Id image that with 317 heads, .040 cometic gaskets, and a 224R cam would be damn near stock feeling at low rpm. The plus side is that the top end will flow a hell of alot better and you pick up power still without noticing any difference in N/A. you might lose maybe 5hp to at the worst 15hp with out boost hooked up, but once you boost it, it should really pick up. I also keep reading that .040 gaskets place a better quench and there for less heat stress or somthing like that, someone needs to better explain it since i cant word it right lol

anyone try this by chance?
